Finished Lena Dunham’s memoir, Famesick, on audible. Really enjoyed it. She’s funny, smart and reflective. I’ve always liked her and Girls.

Reading The Bright Years, by Sarah Damoff about a family dealing with alcoholism, family secrets and loss. It’s pretty good but I’m not tearing through it.

I just finished Lidie by Jane Smiley. While the writing was nice, there was so little plot. It was pages and pages of waiting for something to happen. I was not a fan.

Turning to Best Offer Wins by Kashino next, then American Fantasy by Emma Straub.

They were both okay, didn’t love either.
Ordinary People was well written but my patience for 20-somethings who make dumb life choices and can’t communicate effectively is limited. Same reason I can’t watch shows like Girls.
When Women Were Dragons also well written and an interesting concept (sort of an allegory or magical realism type thing), but I found it a little simplistic. It oversold the sexism in the 1950s and 1960: — I mean, there was definitely a lot of sexism but this was almost a cartoonish level of sexism. I get that it isn’t meant to be a realistic book (hence dragons) but it irked me a little.

The Judith Guest "Ordinary People?" That's not 20-somethings making dumb choices. Is there another "Ordinary People?"

I liked Heart the Lover by Lily King. I flew through it because the characters pulled me in. I had a few qualms with the last 1/3 of the story, but overall I would recommend. It's a fast, light read.

I love these books. Could get lost in her descriptions. Plus, JAMMF!

I am sorry for your loss. Glad the outlander books are giving you some comfort.

Reading Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop - so far, pretty boring.

I'm almost finished with The Paris Match by Kate Clayborn. It's pretty fluffy, but it has some serious themes that make it a little more substantial than some rom-com type books.

I also really enjoyed Go Gentle by Maria Semple. Funny and interesting.

Finally, American Fantasy by Emma Straub--so good!

I DNF this book. Also tried her latest Katabasis and it was another DNF. I picked up these books because I loved Yellowface, but have just come to the conclusion that I do not enjoy her fantasy novels.

I’m reading London Falling by Patrick Radden Keene. He is such an amazing nonfiction writer.

I just finished it. I liked it a lot though it’s probably going to be a book that I completely forget about in 6 months.

I'm reading the 6th volume of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion. I finished Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See just before starting it.
