It was a hard call for FCPS, but looks like kids would be safer at school til the normal release time.
Yes kids would be safer in schools than on busses than in cars/walking outdoors.
But this isn’t about students safety, it’s about giving teachers more PTO.
You’re wrong - and a jerk to boot.
I’m not, schools are required by code to have places to shelter for storms. Your car, your house and your sidewalk aren’t.

Thats not happening.

Doubtful. LCPS isn’t even doing early release at all, they’re just telling people to check their phones throughout the day in case they randomly decide yeah NOW we need to send the kids home.
Yes it’s so idiotic I hate LCPS
I’m frustrated the plan is “let’s just see.” I had to come up with 3 possible dismissal scenarios for my kids and develop a plan for whichever one comes to pass

Anonymous wrote:Whoever said this is typical spring and summer weather … a) no it isn’t and b) we aren’t even in spring yet. We had an 80 degree day last week followed by snow and then severe summer storms 4 days later. The calendar is beside the point, our climate is destabilized and weather closures like this and the ice storm WILL be more regular as a result.

It’s a tough call and the superintendent is in a “you’re damned if you do, you’re damned if you don’t”. It’s just that then we have Friday off, an early release next Wednesday (tell me what the teachers are “planning” 2 days before spring break) and then the half day on the Friday before spring break for Quarter End.
😂 you forgot to mention Monday and Friday off the week following spring break.
I don’t understand why teacher planning is always under attack.
Look. I get it. There are too many early releases. I agree with you. But don’t put “planning” in quotes, like it’s some type of joke. 50% of a teacher’s job involves behind-the-scenes work. We plan every day, not just on early release days. It’s just that most of our planning is done at night and on weekends.
Don’t mock the planning.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Cancel Friday. Put the kids in school
When presented with the choice between more school and less school, FCPS will always choose the latter.

Some. Of. Us. Have. To. Work.
Different poster, but before the “ScHoOlS aRe NoT ChIlDcArE” comes to bite your head off, a lot of us also really want consistent learning for our kids and you will not convince me they are getting it at FCPS.
I agree with you on all the random holidays and work days but I can't stand listening to people rant when the weather is bad. This is out of FCPS control and I for one would rather my kids be home safe.
You're failing to comprehend that no one would be ranting if the rest of the Calendar was at all fair and in the best interest of students. But it's not-it caters to politicians.
Um hmm that is why you brought up the calendar on the weather thread because the calendar bothers you. Okay. Sure. And you only did it after the closure was announced.
You should seek out the calendar thread to complain about the calendar.
The issues are interrelated moron
