They poured resources into opening an unnecessary school while neglecting Wootton’s needs, now forcing Wootton to become the victim of their poor planning and lose its current building where they belong for 50+ years. It’s no different from Silver Spring international middle school which is forced to close.

Sure, MCPS sucks, but when they started to build Crown, all of the surrounding HS were projected to be over capacity, and they didn't have this regional model concept.

Now, they are projecting enrollment declines, and we have a huge budget issue.

Yes, they should've fixed Wootton a while ago, but there were a lot of schools that needed to be fixed in the CIP.

So, here we are, declining enrollments, budget issues, a brand new HS, and another HS next to that new build that is falling apart.

Uh, hate to break it to you, but MCPS is using the 3 "dominant" high schools as a reason why they are changing everything, whether you agree with it or not. If you're angry about it, target it toward MCPS Central Office/BOE, not other school communities.

Must be nice to be able to have the privilege to get to choose to live anywhere you want.

I mean besides some of the basic community support like language and cultural centers and schools, also making sure that your kids are in an environment where they can be treated as human beings and not stereotyped. Or see initiatives that work against them when they're already discriminated against in other ways.

If you're hoping to drive demographics one way or another, you have to be careful which way you're pushing them. Because contrary to popular belief, there are many left leaning Asians and they've been marching since the Civil Rights movement and the recent BLM movements. But it's becoming easier to see why there are also that lean towards MAGA because it looks like they have their best/similar interests in mind.

Finally, as for declining enrollments, you seem to want to take what MCPS says at face value. If they got the construction of Crown so wrong, why do you believe them now?

Does it make sense to you to fix a car that's falling a part when you have a brand new car right next to it, and your family size is shrinking such that you don't need a second car anymore, and your income was reduced?

Wootton families made poor decisions paying premiums for economic segregation. Literally they paid too much for houses, to be next to other people who paid too much for their houses. I had the option to buy out that way, but at the time. A) they were planning on building a new school, this has been in the works for over 13 years. B) I couldn't rationalize buying a small dump of a house when I could get 4000+ sq foot home somewhere else.

I don't know what to tell you. I pay the same taxes as everyone else, why am I penalized with a school you choose to "pooh-pooh"?

From my perspective Wootton families are the problem and why MCPS isn't better for everyone. MCPS keeps hanging their hat on the three good schools they have but there are a dozen under performing schools and an absurd lottery system.
