May her memory be a blessing.

Too bad it wasn't a MAGA. Yep I put that on social media. They have been beyond disgusting with their posts to her and her family. MAGA cult of lunatics.

Tatiana Schlossberg, environmental journalist and Kennedy scion, dies at 35
She announced her terminal cancer diagnosis in a New Yorker essay that took aim at Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom she called “an embarrassment.”

Kennedy scion, environmental journallist and mom of two kids under 5. Grateful that she shared her story and concerns about our public health system. May she rest in peace.

Such sad news. She was so brave to write that NYer piece, incredibly eloquent even as she had so little time left.

Oh no the kind of AML that she has is rare and really aggressive: AML with inv(3).
The treatments are utterly brutal, and only postpone the inevitable.

I am one of the doctors who diagnoses blood cancers, and it feels like these patients are getting younger and younger. 20 years ago I feel like most of my diagnoses of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma were in older people, but now so many are adolescents and young or middle aged adults. It will be interesting to review population data in the coming years.

I feel so bad for her and her family. Just so awful. It’s tragic. It was a well-written and affecting article. Thanks for posting.

It’s not heartbreaking because she’s famous. It’s heartbreaking because people feel emotionally connected to other people, whether those people are public figures or their coworkers, neighbors, friends, or family members. It's also heartbreaking when a fictional character dies of terminal cancer in a movie, television series or book.

You don't feel any sadness that Tatiana Schlossberg is dying from terminal cancer? I feel sadness for her because I feel connected to her through her pictures, interviews and writings.

Part of what’s so tragic is that a lot of “Kennedy curse” was just maladaptive behaviors as far as risk taking - Michael Kennedy skiing into a tree playing football. Joe Kennedy Jr paralyzing a woman in a car crash. Teddy killing one. JFK jr killing himself and his wife and SIL out of ego. Papa Joe engaging in criminality for decades and dooming his reckless golden boy to death by assasination.

But Tatiana is not guilty of any of this.

She's not guilty of anything like this. She has like 1000 family members.

My comment was about how people are criticizing her for her wealth somehow, like she's responsible for it. If she had drowned in the Hudson swimming across it or a couple of other things she mentioned about living a healthy lifestyle like I'll never live, great.

But she was just doing what everyone said and she has never had anything to do with shit that happened 30-40-50-60-70-80 years ago.

My family is a bunch of dumb hillbillies who wander into mudflats because they saw something shiny or climbed a water tower and fell or who shot off their toes.

Not anything I did. People should stop with the whole thing where she has a gene that makes her make terrible decisions, because she did not.

Eye on the prize, please. The people criticizing her are MAHA and MAGA lunatics, who want more than anything to be liked and praised for their bad opinions and low analytical skills. They are criticizing her for speaking out, not because she’s rich. And they are wrong for that criticism, and they are gross for acting like her acts are wrong because her time is probably running out and she must feel such a need to act now, and write now, and leave as many traces of her thoughts, now, for her children and her parents and husband.

You are absolutely correct 100%

But also there is a whole machine built up on the internet to pull people down or push them up

Like as soon as her brother announced his candidacy for office there was a whole onslaught of posts here and elsewhere about “we don’t need any more nepo babies he’s unqualified” (except for having an education and a law degree) etc.

It’s just ugly. But I recognized that all those posts are also coming from ugly people and people who need to make a day in whatever currency floats in their own country.

The lack of empathy on this thread is bizarre. Some of you are more worried about Bobby Kennedy having to weather two paragraphs of criticism than you are about the children who will be left without a mother, and the rest of you are trying to do this noble thing where you "just don't understand the amount of sympathy for the Kennedy family."

People don't feel sorry for her because she's a Kennedy. People feel sorry for her, as they would any woman, who was cut down in the prime of her life leaving behind two small children.

Exactly. Her essay was powerful and full of emotion. If anyone one of the DCUM posters had written the same essay, my reaction would have been the same. I can’t believe the lack of understanding and empathy expressed throughout this thread. Some posts were so vitriolic that Jeff had to go on a deletion binge. If you cannot find empathy for this woman and her family, imagine it was your sister going through this, would your response be, so what, a lot of young people die. SMH.

The only reason she has a platform is because "Kennedy."

As opposed to RFK Jr who had a long career as a scientist before HHS?

Two wrongs don't make a right.

She literally has the same qualifications as any other journalist. A BA from a good school and a few publications. In contrast most HHS secretaries have at a minimum some admin experience.

Indeed! People have become so cruel. Didn't everyone's mom teach them if they can't say something nice about a person ...don't say anything at all.

it's the fact that she's from a democratic family. People just can't be empathetic towards someone of a different party.

I am a mother to two young children and I was incredibly empathetic for her for the first part of the article. She is an incredible writer. However, it was such a turnoff one she took it in a hyper political direction that I wasn't able to finish it. I wish her the best.

So a woman cannot express her true feelings even in dying. Shut up and only say nice things has been the mantra. Do not speak. Do not offend. Her family member is controlling the research funding that is possibly life and death for her and others, but she should not rage and go away quietly. Seen but not heard.

No, she's free to say what she wants, but the way she went about it basically shot herself in the foot. If you want people to listen, you need to be able to reach them. She started off well. However, the latter part turned so tactless -to the point it completely overshadowed the rest of her story and shut down many readers who were previously open to listening. It's not the best way to effectuate the change she wants.

Okay, you’re responding to my post. I will ask you this question and you don’t have to answer, however I encourage you to be honest with yourself. You said you were a mother to two young children. Imagine your child had an aggressive bone disease and being treated at St Jude’s. There’s been lots of promising research out of NIH that can prolong your child’s life, but NiH needs to fulfill just one or two more widgets before your child can receive this possible life saving drug.

As a mother, citizen of the USA, you are given a platform to speak out and bring awareness of the cuts in funding that just might save your child. Are you telling us that you would not speak out and bring such awareness to the public and how it is impacting your daughter, you, and family. Would you consider that political? And if so, I guess you want the listener to disregard what you have to say, because after all, what you would have to say may be correct but it’s political.

Why would a random mother be given this opportunity to speak out?

Random people are given random opportunities all the time. This is America
