Sure. Go ahead and send them to Bubbaland

+1 seriously. If it's so great, why is it ranked so low?

Smart kids who need merit aid can do well at Bama.

If people want to pay $$$ to send their kids Bama or Ole Miss to have fun, go Greek, and earn a degree why does it bother y’all?

65% of people in Alabama voted Trump in 2024. Enough said.

These rich out-of-staters aren't going to be 1 of 34,000 random Bama students, they're going to be 1 of 10,000 in Greek life, which at the "top tiers" is highly competitive with ultra low acceptance rates.

I thought those are only reserved for the rich kids from the south?

Also, all the people commenting on this thread are going because they need the $$$s, so they aren’t rich.

Sigh.

Rich people are smart about money. Milk the merit aid and invest in grad school or housing.

If you’ve ever been on campus, you would know how rich these kids are. It’s shocking.

Rich people don’t have to go cheap so they can invest in housing or grad school. That makes no sense.

Please tell us how you can walk through campus and determine people’s bank accounts.

And kids with real options are not going to a low rated southern school just for "fun." They can find fun in a ton of schools outside of the South, even. A lot of them that are not "radically far left."

I lived in Alabama and I don’t like it much at all, but that campus is like a cruise ship and I can see why a 19 year old would want to spend four years there.

The beaches are spectacular and Mobile, although a bit gritty, is an interesting city. Huntsville is akin to living in a different world from the rest of the state; highly educated & somewhat sophisticated. In which city did you live ?

+1 Yes to Huntsville and Mobile.

+1 And top students are offered an outstanding academic program. Too many DCUM posters have never been to the south and seen to think tgis country is locked in the early 1900s.

170 ? No way. Just checked the recently released AP poll--U Alabama is ranked #10 after beating U Georgia yesterday.

All things being equal kids want to go to a FUN school filled with HAPPY peers in a SUNNY region.

Your comment makes no sense. If that was the case then Alabama would have much lower acceptance rates than its 75%…Ole Miss would certainly be lower than 98%.

I mean UConn is in a fairly unexciting cold area in a tiny state yet it receives 63,000 applications (more than Alabama) and has a 54% acceptance rate.

You acceptance rate & yield wackos are so creepy and WEIRD. People in real life do not care. Colleges in the south do not RIG their stats and CHEAT like the schools in the north and New England are constantly busted doing. Maybe next you can tell us about all the Nobels and Rhodes winners.

NOBODY freaking cares. This is not stuff normal people think about. It is certainly not something any smart teen kid considers when selecting a college.

Anyone that uses all caps words is clearly WEIRD.

You completely missed the point that UConn receives more applications than Alabama.

So, it’s official. UConn is HOT.
