Let me get this straight. You visually inspected a child’s genitalia (you sickeningly use the word ‘bulge’ in your own statement/confession) and made an incorrect assumption about her gender. You knew you were in the wrong because you went back to the pool to wait to be confronted and face consequences. The decision makers no doubt were already discussing what happened but rightly decided to move slowly and evenly and not confront you there. It can be assumed that most if not all board members at a community pool have kids. It can also be assumed that they interviewed the family and learned she was a girl (not that it matters per the rules whether you like it or not) and then gathered to decide what to do in this unhinged completely out of the ordinary bizarro situation that had NEVER happened until you came along. And they suspended you. Because you deserved it. If I were the board or any parent at that pool I wouldn’t want you around my kids either. Well done Woodley.

Luis, thank you for sharing. I agree that boys should not compete against girls, even in youth sports. As an official, I see you were trying to enforce rules and advocate for fair rules. Asking the three spectators questions about the swimmer was not appropriate. Writing “boy” on the meet sheet was not appropriate. I would’ve kept my concerns to meet officials, team reps, and the league to be most effective, professional, and kind. I also agree that the boards communication to you via email only, lacking specifics of the violation, and failing to interview you for your account were not appropriate.

Question for you- was the swimmer actually a boy or girl? Posts reference Terry wee actually a girl but I see no verification of that.

Can you link to NVSL rules about gender? I agree that league rules need to include gender policies.

I was reading an account of the Alan Dershowitz showdown on Martha's Vineyard and ran across this para, which I think applies to Mr. Fernandez as well:

Luis - time for you to acknowledge that you misgendered a little girl, humiliated her, and made an a** out of yourself in doing it. No one is going to engage with you on the merits of “fair competition in the NVSL” while you refuse to acknowledge that you bullied a little girl and refuse to take accountability for what you did to her and her family.

“All available evidence” is that you were wrong on the facts. No one owes you a DNA test or visual genital inspection. You’re not a pediatrician or a GYN so suggest you keep your opinions on the private parts of little girls to yourself. Maybe your kids/wife are the ones with the nonstandard parts.

I am posting these pages to try to encourage more of you to write to your pools and the NVSL board asking both to clarify the rules such that future NVSL events only include boys (males) swimming against boys in boys' events and girls (females) swimming against girls in girls' events.

I noticed that many of the posts in this DCUrbanMom.com forum thread were well considered, and for that reason I hope to engage with you all to push for fair competition in NVSL. I hope that many of you will write letters to your Community Pool Boards and NVSL to advocate for the clarification and enforcement of the rules concerning sex differentiated swim events.

I have nothing to hide about the whole affair and am willing to share basically everything. So if I get some good questions, I will try to engage. If the conversation degenerates, then I guess I'll ignore the thread.

    I hope the child is unaware and the parents are very aware, so they can get a restraining order against him and hopefully a bunch of money.

    I keep thinking of Luis’s six children. I can’t imagine what the home life must be like with such an explosive, obsessive parent. Safe places like swim team and friends houses are so critical for kids who live with parental mental illness and this action has probably taken those things away from them.

    +1. It’s a sad commentary on our public culture that protecting girls in sports now means protecting girls in sports from men like Luis.
