I heard it was delayed when the cheer commissioner brought the kids and made them cheer for her chosen candidates and not for other.

SYC's text to vote came at 8:29, and the email went out at 8:35—even though they stated voting would run from 8:00 to 8:30 pm. Hopefully there’s no confusion or funny business with the timing.

Seconded 100% by another travel parent not blindly voting for the entire travel soccer slate…

I'm also a different travel parent and I'm voting for rec sports representation. I can accept that the majority of the board should be travel-friendly, but in no circumstances should rec support be shut out completely (or only have 1 seat).

Do these people realize without travel soccer this club barely exists and they won't have administrative leadership. I would have to imagine 90% of their revenue must come from travel soccer players and travel soccer tournament. How does the admin staff even think they will have jobs? Would be too funny if travel soccer branched off like some of these other clubs have done. Let's watch this implode:

Are you kidding me?!!?? SYC has been around for over 60 years and it didn’t survive this long because of Travel Soccer! The other sports have always carried the Travel program. Let’s set the record straight. Thousands of families don't play Travel Soccer. All those sports commissioners organized their own schedules, schedule out their fields and or gyms, for rec soccer alone there are close to 200 teams. They create, deconflict their own schedules. They put together uniform orders and equipment set pick ups, out of their homes and guess the heck what, those programs are ALL run by VOLUNTEERS. That’s right! Volunteers!!! Without them, nothing moves. The admin staff salaries are covered because of those sports that carry little to NO overhead. They have jobs because of the collective strength of every sport, not just Travel Soccer. The only reason Travel Soccer has full-time, VERY WELL paid positions like the Travel Soccer Technical Director, Boys DOC, Girls DOC (whose husband sits on the BOD), and even an administrator working from Chicago.... is because the rest of the club has volunteer managed sports. So no, Travel Soccer doesn’t hold the keys to SYC’s survival, it’s the entire club community and the volunteers who have been carrying the load for decades. The imagination that SYC would implode without Travel Soccer doesn't have an historical leg to stand on. SMH

Always wondered how the Girls DOC got that position. Compare her resume and list of coaching accomplishments to other girls DOCs and it’s a head scratcher.

Even with a spouse on the board it’s good to see that the SYC 2012 GA Assistant coach refused to promote her to GA director. That’s an indicator that there is still hope for both SYC and Travel Soccer.

A reminder

As the meeting approaches, concerns have been raised by commissioners representing SYC sports outside of the travel soccer program regarding the current composition and decision-making of the Board. Presently, eight of the nine sitting board members are affiliated with travel soccer, prompting calls for more inclusive representation that reflects the broader spectrum of SYC sports.
Despite already holding the vast majority of board seats, travel soccer leadership has urged their families to vote exclusively for additional travel soccer representatives in the upcoming election. This message may have also been sent to Rec Soccer families as if it reflected all of soccer. This move has raised significant concern among other SYC members, as it suggests a desire to avoid oversight regarding financial decisions, program fees, and the potential elimination of non-soccer sports.

In recent months, additional governance issues have come to light, including:
· Potential misappropriation of funds from other sports to the travel soccer program
· The removal of publicly accessible board meeting minutes
· Limited communication with sport commissioners
· Staffing and business decisions resulting in substantial financial losses
· The loss of SYC’s tax-exempt status
· The direct hiring of a sitting board member
· Noncompliance of SYCs stated procedures and policies
· Unsafe and potential illegal building violations

These developments have sparked urgent calls for more transparency, fiscal accountability, and balanced representation of all sports programs within SYC.
During Friday's meeting, four to five board seats will be up for election, and all SYC members are encouraged to participate. For those unable to attend in person, a digital voting option will be available via email around the time of the meeting, with a limited voting window.
A group of commissioners from underrepresented sports is recommending a slate of candidates committed to restoring balance and trust. These individuals bring diverse experience and are dedicated to ensuring every sport—not just travel soccer—is supported fairly and equitably. These candidates are:
Matt Waggoner
Mike Waskewich
Andy Green
Nick Kartesis
Ralph Sullivan

Attendance in person is appreciated. Recent emails from SYC also indicate on-line voting will be available form 800-830 pm. Watch for notification.

Thanks for your consideration.

Wait the bolded (aka the title of this thread) is REAL?

According to the rec soccer commissioner it's a real possibility

Send SYC an email to inquire. I believe SYC has a very strong pool of players in this age group.

That's a great point. SYC travel soccer doesn't have a great track record acting on the best interests of their paying customers. Let's hand them the keys to the Ferrari!

Not PP, but don't you have a great deal of respect for people who are willing to behave on principle? The prior poster thinks rec sports are a community resource and is voting for that regardless.

In addition PP is hoping that the rec preferred slate will try to act in organization-wide best interest, which would theoretically include travel soccer. After all, they say "not a fan of the way management has handled things in recent years." After all, before this thread became a conversation about field allocation, it was a conversation about the extra fees piled on after contracts were signed.

"theoretically" but what then when it doesn't? Vote however you want but there's a risk that it may impact your child's program. People are trying to stir fear that soccer parents are trying to push all resources to their sport which is not the case. As you say, the board is there to serve everyone so why create so much fear that if they are soccer parents that they will do the other sports wrong. Vote on the best most qualified candidate and not "us vs them".

Why would you wish for an entire board to be travel soccer. Then there is no representation of any other sport. Travel soccer is one of sixteen sports SYC has. A Board with one sport does not look out for the interest of the other fifteen.

I don't, I said vote for the best candidate. Just don't think it should be an agenda of us vs them. If the best candidate is one that isn't soccer, than so be it. I think all of these groups are afraid that they are going to get less if "one of theirs" doesn't get the vote. The SYC board should serve all sports but assets should be allocated appropriately. It's also kind of dumb to take away from a sport that potentially is bringing the most income to the club. I don't know if soccer is the top earning or not but it seems to be a large part of it.

If it's a non-profit than it doesn't matter who brings in the most income. Income would be directly related to expenses. Travel sports are also the most expensive. As long as cheer/flag football/whatever covers expenses, they're doing just as well by the organization as travel soccer (at least in theory).
