No, it was called American farmers. I know because my entire family is in the farming community and tired of being priced out by illegal labor.

Maybe in your little corner. But across most of America, farmers have been relying on foreign laborers for DECADES. I remember Mexican farm workers from when I was a kid and I'm now pushing 60. You definitely don't speak for most of the American ag industry. Even in the 1950s close to 30% of US farm workers were foreign migrants. That grew over time to be over 50% by 2000. Yet you dolts want to try and gaslight us and pretend this is some sudden new occurrence, in fact an "InVAsIOn!!!!" and it's all Joe Biden's fault.

All true and this is why Clinton, Bush, and Obama pushed Congress to pass immigration reform to suit the needs of modern America. We need foreign laborers to be able to come her legally with prior authorization. These are called work visas. The letting all the unvetted people in and then kicking them all out policies of Trump and Biden are chaotic, dangerous, and completely asinine.

We can discuss future immigration policies after the millions of people staying here illegally are removed. First we get a working border, then we reevaluate.

Tell me you’re not a business leader without telling me. That’s a great way to run one into the ground. Myopia is for the birds.

Yabut yabut yabut scary invasion of criminal rapist cat and dog eating illegals. It's wild that these stupid MAGA brain worms have embedded themselves so deeply in minds that these people would sooner starve to death than countenance the thought of a migrant picking their strawberries.

Huh? More like you liberals can’t imagine a country with actual enforced law where businesses can’t have underpaid illegal labor to pick strawberries but have to actually….pay a living wage and benefits to lawful workers.

You MAGA dumbasses are completely inconsistent and incoherent.

WE LIBERALS supported guys like Cesar Chavez, who organized American farm workers and tried getting them better wages. YOU called him a communist, a socialist, a terrorist. Incidentally, Chavez was very much anti-migrant labor, because he wanted Americans to be able to do those jobs for a fair wage.

WE LIBERALS have been calling for living wages for decades. YOU whined and moaned and called US communists and socialists and terrorists and accused us of being greedy thieves and retaliated against us by busting unions and threatening American workers with automation and offshoring and everything else.

YOU CONSERVATIVES have stood in the way of these things for decades. YOU have stood in the way of any kind of coherent policy for decades, whether living wages, immigration reform or even the border wall. It was YOUR side who, before Trump came along, didn't want a border wall, who wanted lax immigration controls and cheap migrant labor. https://theconversation.com/republicans-once-championed-immigration-in-the-us-why-has-the-partys-rhetoric-and-public-opinion-changed-so-dramatically-239836

And now you presume to come along and preach to us about stuff we've always supported, like living wages? Come on.

Your wistful remembrance of something that happened 50-60 years ago is cute. Cesar Chavez has been dead since 1993.

The Democratic Party right now is not the party of Cesar Chavez type people. Wake up.

Well according to MAGA both of them were too soft on immigration, so which is it?

Just answer the question. If the economy didn’t crater under the Deporter in Chief why would it if Trump can’t keep up with Obama?

DP: Indiscriminate deportation focused on specific sectors that will collapse; fomenting fear among large swaths of the country causing chaos, social unrest, and economic instability; creating fear that prevents people from even wanting to travel here for vacation, etc., etc. Enforcement methods and due process matter. Discretion matters. No prior President made the giant mistakes Trump is making.

And the GOP has taken an even greater tumble. Yea, going from Ciinton and Obama to Joe Biden is bad but how the heck did the GOP go from McCain and Romney being their nominees to Trump 3 consecutive times! Weakness. Weakness everywhere in American politics.
Because people like McCain and Romney pretended to be for stopping illegal immigration but really did nothing.

McCain and Romney aren't solely responsible for the complete failure of Congress to act on a long standing issue. Clinton, Bush, and Obama did a decent job of, in a humane and reasonable way, preventing the flow of new undocumented immigrants from overwhelming the system and then Biden and Trump blew everything up with their let 'em all in, kick 'em all out ridiculousness. Meanwhile, Congress has done little to nothing in the 30 years we've been needing immigration law reform that makes it easier for economic immigrants to world here legally.

Btw, machines harvest cotton so no need for anyone to do that anymore.

The questions OP posed are the same as those who asked who will pick cotton. The answer is the same: machines, other technology, or *gasp* actually paying Americans living wages.

America will be just fine.

Republicans are against paying anyone living wages, if they were, they would appropriately who is doing it now. They are doing it because literally Americans don't want to work in agriculture any more. We also ship out factory work. Where do you think Trump bibles and hats come from? And a fair amount of agriculture and food processing isn't automated. Migrants and refugees saw opportunities here, and took them, just like every immigrant population that came to this country for hundreds of years. And who isn't paying them correctly, btw- yes, the farmers who hired them and pay them in secret. Where is there punishment since you think it's such a crime?

We've been waiting for Congress to step and pass immigration reform for decades. That's the best answer to whose going to fill employment positions in certain fields. Economic migrants seeking work in the US and employers seeking workers should have more expedited process of obtaining visas so these immigrants can work without fear of ICE looking over their shoulders. Clinton, Obama, and Bush all pushed for this.

And there was actually a decent bipartisan bill spearheaded by conservative Republican Senator Lankford that actually had some Democrat support and a chance of passing, which would have started to make some good progress, but Trump had it torpedoed because he needed border and immigration chaos to run on and fearmonger on.

If you're referring to the bill I think you are referring, I don't believe that bill addressed the specific need for easier access to employer sponsored work visas for economic immigrants seeking non-high skilled work in the US. That bill was more of a short term border security bill. It would have helped to limit undocumented immigrant border crossings and with asylum hearing backlogs but it didn't address the need for those workers to be able to come here legally with more ease. We need those workers here legally.

+1 A few years ago during Trump’s first term MAGA Prince Charlie Kirk was saying we should have 50 million more immigrants here, that they were transforming (in a good way) cities like Dayton in the rust belt, and that we should staple a green card to the diploma of every DACA kid. It’s horrifying how the mainstream Republican platform is now indistinguishable from the manifesto of the El Paso Walmart shooter and how fast that changed.
