In addition to the typical suites (two rooms sharing a bath), the newer dorms also have rooms that share hall bathroom space with just a few other rooms. There will be choices of both.

Some dorms are mostly suites some are mostly hall-style.

DD is committed for fall and is starting to look at dorms. She knows she doesn’t want a suite, but looking at floor plans there seem to be more than we had expected in places like Lemon and Cedar. Are we misunderstanding?

Cause in the 60s and 70s there was a population boom and a lot of stuff was built to be done quickly rather than look good. They also had strange design decisions like motel style access and were a lot smaller than typical dorms. Doesn't make sense to try and renovate a building with no character. The older buildings define the university.


That and the modern architecture that was in vogue at the time didn't age well. (At least the designs of many average architects.)

They actually fought hard to keep the brick walls of Jefferson. All the interior support was gone from the fire. They had to quickly erect steel supports to preserve it as it was essentially an unsupported 200 foot long 4 story brick wall. They'd have gladly wheeled out the wrecking ball if the fire would have occurred at Morton/Boswell.
