Spent two full days in the town, everything was in bloom and we had good weather. It’s pretty awesome. Biggest drawback for us is the food & meal plan (not insignificant given a medical issue). The students we met were really happy there. They all noted the inexpensive travel they are able to do. They said is is DARK in winter - daylight only from 9-3 - but noted they are away on Xmas break for a bulk of that time. The many societies were also a high point. Loved the town so much.
My son just made the same choice -- St Andrews over CU Boulder. We're in-state with CU and while that means much lower tuition, it also means that it feels like less of an adventure since it's in his backyard. (Now as for why someone from Colorado is on DCUM: I stumbled on this forum last year and find it interesting and useful, even though I'm neither from DC nor a Mom.)

My son gave up schools that are much better ranked than CU for St Andrews. Unless he is studying Engineering (no engineering at Sta) or certain Sciences programs, I would not even compare these two universities straight up. But then if he wants to move back to Colorado, then sure….it is a no brainer…
Maybe psych. She has already declined better ranked universities than CU (Wisconsin, Bates, Northeastern) b/c she really just liked the Boulder vibe, sunshine, and proximity to lots of outdoorsy stuff. Unless St.A blows her socks off in the next few days, Boulder it is!

If she wants sunshine, then just drop Sta out of her list. While they do have some of the highest number of hours of daylight in the UK (~1600), in the winter the sunsets at 3:45pm…..

Yep. This doesn’t even include the very long term breaks when Cole and Merritt want to go to Mykonos or the Canaries.

What a dumb comment.
We spend $50k per year with my kid at St Andrews. his other Private options in the US were $80k+ per year. That is $120k in savings over 4 years.
How are you spending $50k? Can’t remember if it was this thread or another, but it seemed like costs added up were putting it closer to $60-65 when you added room, board, health, travel, etc. I would LOVE it to be $50k. We are headed over this weekend to make the decision. Other choice is CU Boulder.
DS is finishing up his 3rd year. Tuition/Room/Board was like $51k this year. I have an international health insurance plan that covers him on top of the min required. Travel is irrelevant for us. We live in Seattle….travel to the East Coast schools he got in would have been almost as much as getting to Edinburgh….
