I don't think the Target boycott was working this weekend. My Target was packed for the Kate Spade drop and also for Easter & spring break shopping.

First time I've been there in 2025 where the store was actually busy and there were long lines at the checkouts. The store also had both sides of self-checkouts open, which I haven't seen since Christmastime.

And yes, I am boycotting Target, but my elderly parents don't care, which is who I take weekly. Target is the cheapest place for them to get a few healthcare items with the Red Card.

Interesting. I never, ever shop at Target (too far from my home). I had no idea people were so dependent on that store.

It takes a bit more thought but I've totally nixed Target (and I used to spend a lot there) and have not spent a cent there since end of January.

Similarly, with Amazon, I canceled all my subscriptions and have only recently ordered one or two things from it. I've started going to other sources to get what I need. For ex., I recently wanted a basic cleaning kit from a specific brand. Amazon had it, as did Target and walmart, and Home Depot. But went directly to Lowe's instead to get it.

That's just one measly example but it's been quite liberating making my money, or lack thereof being spent, as a little bit of leverage. And even if it doesn't do that much, it makes me feel better giving to the right places.

Once people figure out alternatives, they don't return. Ulta is pulling back their store-in-store expansion, so we can conclude that hubbie picking up makeup is not making a dent.

I love that you’re trying but swapping out Target for Home Depot is laughable. You might as well stop at hobby lobby and chick-fil-a while you’re on your way to Home Depot, then maybe send a check to the southern Baptist convention in case you accidentally skipped any ultra conservative businesses on your shopping trip. Are there no small business or locally owned markets in your area that sell cleaning supplies? No local grocers?

Yes, try Grove Collaborative. There are tons of local DC markets like Streets, Mom’s, that sell cleaning supplies. You can also make cleaning supplies inexpensively.

I just found an old stash of Target gift cards we’ve received. I’m holding out on buying anything there, but have decided I will use them this year so that Target has inventory going out the door without collecting another penny from me. If I don’t use the cards, they get to pocket that money.

You could also give them to Doorways or other charities that need ways to help clients settle into new homes.

It's like buying off charity's Amazon wish list. I don't shop there for myself, but I used to do that for other people. I'm not going to go Tsk tsk at refugees
