I have mixed feelings. DC is in at Michigan, but was going to feel pressure to go to UvA. I think Michigan wins in every category, but tuition and maybe weather. DC never lived UVA, but applied bc it made sense. Am I bummed, relieved or both?

From your comments you sound relieved. Accepted OOS at Michigan and deferred in state UVA…goes to show you just how hard it is to get in at UVA. Coveted acceptances for those who really know and appreciate the school.

That’s a weird thing to say.
I think it just shows how random and inexplicable this process can be;how major-dependent it can be; and how a strong student from Nova can often have a tough time getting in just due to numbers.

Eh. DC ‘s friend was the opposite. In at UVA, deferred OOS Michigan. That’s more common if you are from VA.

Pp here. I was referring to the poster’s kid who UVA deferred.

Parents yapping about UVA on DCUM all year and now minimal posts.

Must've been a lot of deferrals and rejections.

Blah blah blah
My kid didn’t do the wrong thing maxing out on math post BC Calc. The point is that there is no one right thing.

This…except then you must ignore what the dean herself has said.

We were not going psycho crazy about college admissions in 9th and 10th grade. By the time we were held hostage by the weekly chats it was done. Our kid had made choice to focus on other advanced classes and rigor. (Pandemic times too). It caused a lot of stress. My point when I raise this is for others to maybe not stress out too much. It might matter for your kid; it might not. But don’t accept this as gospel.

Same deal for my kid last year with a UVA waitlist and is now at UMich. If it’s not over budget look at the program quality at UMich versus other schools. If it’s CS the UMich program is very strong, in challenging but positive environment. Lots of upper level class offerings.

Seriously? Is that what it’s down to? Even for business?

No, of course not. You're just seeing a tiny sampling of stats (if they're even true) here.

Great option. Gotta just turn the page and move on. It doesn't really matter in the long run.
