Elon Musk said the point of the "Department Of Government Efficiency" is not cruelty. "We will reduce a lot of government headcount, but we're going to give very long severances. Like two years, or something like that."
Maybe there is a silver lining.
Honestly though, Elon is so clueless. Does the government ever provide severance pay? I didn’t think so…Would they need legislation to be able to provide those kind of deals? I realize they are going to play fast and loose with the law but appropriations are a big deal.
Yes it does. I can be up to a year depending on length or service and age. It will be quite expensive to RIF on mass..though Congress could change the laws of course.

We've done it before, we got this!
A job is just a job, nothing is ever guaranteed.

When did we do this before???
He wasn’t like this during his first term at all. There were still relatively sane people around him and the Supreme Court wasn’t stacked in his favor.

I’m at NIh and have been for a week now. I found a job at ICE but don’t have a top secret clearance.

My rational mind says not to worry but I am and I do. I believe in public service, I even agree with some things he wants and plans to do but it is still nerve wracking. I dedicated the better part of my career to lublic service and took pay cuts for stability. Spare me the private sector layoff guilt. I grew up with it. I just want to do my job and to continue to serve. I guess we need a budget too so who knows what will happen.
Why would you switch your insurance now? If you are fired or otherwise leave your job, you can switch it then.
Congratulations on not understanding how FEHB works.
