The questions were worded in such a bizarre way and the system kept asking me to “reconfirm” my DOB, my place of birth, etc. and then it kept restarting the questions. The DMV worker had to get a supervisor who also didn’t understand the process. Finally it accepted my answers and I could pay and get my license. But the entire experience was weird.
That afternoon I called the city registrar who told me to check my status online. At first I kept getting errors but after a week my registration was there.
I am a lifelong Virginian, married to an immigrant. This will be my 9th presidential election since I turned 18. This system is shady AF. If you think regular people haven’t been flagged and this system hasn’t been dropping legal citizens you’re crazy.

Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a statement Friday afternoon after being notified that the Biden-Harris Department of Justice was filing a lawsuit against Virginia.
“With less than 30 days until the election, the Biden-Harris Department of Justice is filing an unprecedented lawsuit against me and the Commonwealth of Virginia, for appropriately enforcing a 2006 law signed by Democrat Tim Kaine that requires Virginia to remove noncitizens from the voter rolls - a process that starts with someone declaring themselves a non-citizen and then registering to vote. Virginians - and Americans - will see this for exactly what it is: a desperate attempt to attack the legitimacy of the elections in the Commonwealth, the very crucible of American Democracy. With the support of our Attorney General, we will defend these commonsense steps, that we are legally required to take, with every resource available to us. Virginia’s election will be secure and fair, and I will not stand idly by as this politically motivated action tries to interfere in our elections, period.“
So, what’s Youngkin talking about? This:
https://www.npr.org/2024/10/11/nx-s1-5150774/the-justice-department-says-virginia-is-illegally-striking-voters-off-of-voter-rolls
RICHMOND, Va. — The U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Virginia election officials Friday that accuses the state of striking names from voter rolls in violation of federal election law.
The lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria says that an executive order issued in August by Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin requiring daily updates to voter lists to remove ineligible voters violates federal law. The National Voter Registration Act requires a 90-day “quiet period” ahead of elections for the maintenance of voter rolls.
“Congress adopted the National Voter Registration Act’s quiet period restriction to prevent error-prone, eleventh hour efforts that all too often disenfranchise qualified voters,” Assistant U.S. Attorney General Kristen Clarke said in a statement. “The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy and the Justice Department will continue to ensure that the rights of qualified voters are protected.”
A similar lawsuit was filed earlier this week by a coalition of immigrant-rights groups and the League of Women Voters.
Non-citizens do not have the right to vote. Why is the DOJ going to bat for non-American citizens to vote?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Why did they wait to clean the voter rolls?
As long as they clean the them, I’m good.
But I agree that if this is procrastination/laziness and not a matter of not finding out earlier, that’s an issue.
It's a matter of Youngkin trying to get the Supreme Court to invalidate the plain text of a federal law. He did it exactly on the 90th day. And his actions resulted in American citizens losing their right to vote.
They want to open the floodgates to purge American citizens at the last minute in the name of "preventing non-citizens from voting." In fact, Youngkin purged more American citizens than Virginians prosecuted for voter fraud (three) since he became Governor.
DP. You are an absolute idiot. The people removed ARE NOT CITIZENS.
Governor Youngkin responded to the ruling:
“Let’s be clear about what just happened: only eleven days before a Presidential election, a federal judge ordered Virginia to reinstate over 1,500 individuals–who self-identified themselves as noncitizens–back onto the voter rolls. Almost all these individuals had previously presented immigration documents confirming their noncitizen status, a fact recently verified by federal authorities.
“This is a Virginia law passed in 2006, signed by then-Governor Tim Kaine, that mandates certain procedures to remove noncitizens from the voter rolls, with safeguards in place to affirm citizenship before removal–and the ultimate failsafe of same-day registration for U.S. citizens to cast a provisional ballot. This law has been applied in every Presidential election by Republicans and Democrats since enacted 18 years ago.
“Virginia will immediately petition the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and, if necessary, the U.S. Supreme Court, for an emergency stay of the injunction.”
Attorney General Jason Miyares also responded:
“It should never be illegal to remove an illegal voter,” said Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares. “Yet, today a Court – urged by the Biden-Harris Department of Justice – ordered Virginia to put the names of non-citizens back on the voter rolls, mere days before a presidential election. The Department of Justice pulled this shameful, politically motivated stunt 25 days before Election Day, challenging a Virginia process signed into law 18 years ago by a Democrat governor and approved by the Department of Justice in 2006.
“More concerning is the open practice by the Biden-Harris administration to weaponize the legal system against the enemies of so-called progress. That is the definition of lawfare. To openly choose weaponization over good process and lawfare over integrity isn’t democracy: it’s bullying, pure and simple, and I always stand up to bullies.
“In the meantime, I encourage every Virginian to exercise their right to vote. Rest assured, I will never stop fighting to preserve the integrity of our election process.
“The Commonwealth of Virginia will appeal this decision – all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary.”
1600, apparently, are citizens and the court ordered their franchise reinstated. Youngkin is a MAGA POS. Thank God he can only serve one term as Gov. In Virginia.
Well, that’s utter BS. 1500 voters were purged - almost ALL of whom had indicated they were non-citizens. Nice spreading of misinformation, otherwise known as lying.
Any false positives can be reinstated on Election Day.
“At a daylong hearing Thursday, Charles Cooper, a lawyer for Virginia, argued that purges focused on non-citizens weren’t covered under the quiet period imposed by the National Voter Registration Act, and that Virginia’s procedures were not the kind of “systematic” program addressed in the federal law.
He also pointed to the opportunities that Virginia offered citizens to rectify false positives, which also include the ability to re-register at a polling place on Election Day.”

Almost all? Horseshoes and hand grenades, son.
Tell ya what, you show up, get told you were purged, despite living in the same house for 20 years. Get sent to a different polling station because your purged self didn’t get the notice it had changed this election because of construction at the high school. Stand in line again, get invited to file a *provisional* ballot, and do not watch it get scanned. But get told that if it will make a difference, they will look and see if they need to prove it’s valid. And you believe them, because Youngkin so honest about voting. /s. Then you go on out and donate to whatever a Youngkin does next because he protected us from almost non-citizens, such as yourself.
What did you just mutter? They would never purge you because you’re —————-? Fill in the blank. Go ahead.
“Almost” non-citizens got purged. I wonder what shade of brown you need to be on the paint chips to be an “almost” non-citizen?

not sure if you understand how the court system works, but, no, and certainly not before the election
Youngkin has already said he will appeal it to the fourth circuit and then to scotus as needed. The federal law doesn’t allow a “systematic” purge but Va. alleges this was an individualized process. They are asking for an emergency injunction. I understand the process quite well thank you.
the DOJ and court agreed it was a systematic, not individualized process, so that as a matter of fact, has been established, so any appeal would need to be based on a matter of law, which is not unclear in this case. He can appeal as is his right, but at some point, it becomes frivolous. In the meantime, these people can vote.
The court agreed with the DOJ yes, but that doesn’t mean the appeals court won’t find that it was an individualized process.
In the next 6 business days?
You really do not understand the Court system of you think the 4th CircUit is working this weekend on this mess Instead of golfing.
You should google “rocket docket”. There is a lot about the practice of law sand in this case appellate practice that you seem unfamiliar with.
