The big whopper you're missing is that it's supposed to be an honest debate without any need to be fact checked in the first place.

If he's so concerned about being fact checked then maybe he needs to STOP LYING ALL THE TIME.

I remember their past reporting where they would mark a few auto parts and then bring problem cars to several garages for repair. No parts would be changed, they'd diagnose outlandish repairs, etc.

"Hi, I'm Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes. We'd like to ask you some questions...."

Boom! Doors would slam shut, Venetian blinds would close, everyone would scatter and the garage became a fortress. It was great fun to watch.

Goes further back. Westmoreland sued them for their editing, taking his answers and recording different questions to match those answers.
If you are being interviewed by the media, record it yourself.
