The problem here is that they have TOO much integrity.
Anywhere else would have been fine with the result of the fact check: Vance did NOT have sex with a couch, it was a funny, but false Twitter joke.
BUT some dweeb with TONS of ethics stopped them and said, "Hang about, the accusation was that he WROTE about it, and we can clear that, but NOT that he actually ever effed a couch."
The fact they pulled the article means they have a lot of credibility. For a reporter at a serious news outlet, but particularly the AP, it is an enormous, perhaps career altering occurrence to have a story pulled. A correction would be mortifying, but to actually PULL the article could end their career.
So they're putting that all out there, just to fix a quibble over JD Vance effing a couch. Incredible.
