Maybe it keeps reappearing because it's a real thing, and thus worth discussing. Just a thought.

It’s not. If you actually listened to it you’d hear a variety of stories/perspectives. The right just wants to discredit non-crazy news sources leading up to the election.
NP.
I listened to NPR for years. Eventually I stopped precisely because of what this journalist has written about.
+1 Same for my husband and me
So what news sources do you use now?

I completely disagree. I am far from right wing and agree 100% that NPR is very left of center and narrative driven. It is rare that I hear objective reporting, what journalism should be. A news network should not be trying to shape public opinion. That is exactly what NPR tries to do.
100% this. We stopped donating and listening this year.
Listening to facts is so very tiring isn't it.

It's true that I don't listen to them as much since they've traveled into DEI territory much of the time, with (ironically!), very little diversity of arguments.
But it's important we keep a free and nationally available radio news source! For the good of the public.
why is it important in 2024? Just a few years ago I would have agreed with you but now meh I can let it go. Plenty of other free media and also NPR doesn’t really represent the public but just a liberal viewpoint. And I am a liberal.
I am also now ok with ending support for public tv. I think it was valuable for a long time but now there is enough free media and ability to access it.
It is important in 2024 to have something that is not about profit and not owned by some right-wing billionaire. There are no longer good independent news sources available in many local markets.
You may not like all of the stories on NPR, but their news segments are fine. People in localities where the local news is all right-wing nonsense and that no longer have a local paper need access to some news that's not BS.
You are very dismissive of conservative thinking with your "right wing nonsense" comment. It's not all nonsense, and attitudes like yours are one reason NPR is losing listeners and donations.
Notice I did not say "conservative". I'm not talking about the WSJ here. I said right-wing nonsense very specifically and purposefully, because that is precisely what Fox and Sinclair-owned channels present. They parrot right-wing extremist conspiracy theories as fact. They repeat lies as fact. They deceive the public at the behest of the Murdoch family and those like them. I don't consider these to be real, conservative news sources. They are BS propaganda machines.
And NPR does actually present conservative guests in conjunction with more liberal guests, having people of different viewpoints have a conversation. Like having different senators. I try to listen and keep an open mind. I have heard this in many segments over the years.
I think it is you that is being dismissive.
