Agree. And if they are adhering to the new SC ruling, there is absolutely no way the next incoming class can be only 18-19% white. It is racial discrimination.


This isn't the incoming class because the admissions cycle is not over. The numbers represent the class of 2027 that was admitted pre-Supreme Court decision. You have to wait until Fall 2024 to determine what they are doing.

If you choose to raise Pablo Garcia in a neighborhood full of Michael Sullivans, Josh Greens, and Jayden Smiths... yeah, peoples' ignorance and prejudice will definitely be a factor.

I say that as someone who raised "Michael Sullivan" in a school full of Pablos. I realize the experience isn't the same, but it's not nothing. Why'd I do it? Because I went to a socioeconomically and culturally diverse school and I felt that experience was the kind of education I wanted my kids to have.

Sadly, because the DMV is so segregated, truly diverse schools are few and far between, and at them class divided are encouraged, not bridged.

What actually would help would be making a serious effort to desegregate our elementary and secondary school systems, develop neighborhoods where socioeconomic diversity is the norm. I mean, there are places in the US where that exists now. This area--and Baltimore--are not among them.

Actually you are wrong. That 75% you quoted includes white Hispanics.

The White, non-Hispanic population of the US is 58.9%…and this number includes people of middle eastern and North African origin. This means the actual white population is probably closer to 55%.

45% of Maryland is white, where JHU is located, not 75%.

NP, but JHU recruit nationally, not just from MD.

Johns Hopkins is throwing away their legacy of being a respected and honored institution over the DEI movement.

How do you come to this conclusion? I get they don’t factor legacy, but assume they care about all the other holistic stuff.

They also absolutely recruit athletes.


They do recruit athletes and my child was going through it with them. The coaches made it very clear that the standards for admission are the standards for admission. They asked for grades and test scores almost right off the bat. And maybe there is some allowances for Hopkins athletes, it is not out experience and it most def is not a significant allowance. DC didn't go as JHU was not taking DC's position in DC's grad year so it didn't work out. But one of DC's teammates IS going there and that kid is beyond smart and I have no doubt meets the academic requirements.

Athletes are not taking anyone's kid's spot at Hopkins.

Ok, so you need good grades but only in regular classes. I’ve seen the kids who get recruited and the academic standards aren’t the same.


That is your summary of my post? That's not even remotely what we were told/experienced or what I said. And while your last sentence may be correct at some schools, it's not at Hopkins.
