Yes, they are everywhere, but they are more in some places than others. There are more mean girls in activities that are not as challenging. Once you notice what they are more drawn to and what they are less drawn to, it's easier to avoid them.

I ran cross country and track. In middle school I vaguely remember there being mean girls but I think they switched to a different sport or stopped playing sports. Those girls were also popular. The rest of us were serious about school and for the most part nice. It’s also coed which has it perks. Getting a bunch of girls together always crates drama, unfortunately. I think the boys balanced it out a little. Lacrosse has always been the mean boy sport. We were all very fit. I don’t recall anyone being overweight. I am definitely pushing my boys to tan track when they are older. My 8 year old will begin next spring. It’s definitely more independent and I think that has a lot of benefits. Growing up I could do stuff alone. I didn’t need a group of girls with me all the time in high school or college like a lot of my friends.

Definitely a mean girl sport today. But the injuries are catastrophic. ACL/MCL meniscus ankles.

Worst injuries I've ever seen are volleyball.
