Your article says nothing at all about PSAT or National merit semifinalists.

Since you seem very confused, I'll give you a little info to help you. On Sept 13 of this year, FCPS released the names of the kids who moved on to National Merit Semifinalists. The class of 2025 just recently took the PSAT for national merit scholarships. They don't even have their scores yet, and nobody has any data on how they compare to previous classes with respect to the PSAT and NMSF status.

Sorry, I misunderstood your comment as class of 2025 not being part of new admissions system. I guess then, let’s wait and see. If class of 2025 comes back w 10x the number of semi finalists, I assume all of these anti-admissions policies will die a quiet death?

By the way this year the cutoff score for semi-finalists was dropped by 2 points so you see more kids

This is the dumbest response I’ve seen yet. The PSAT, for every “objective” test lover here, should be the deciding factor as to whether kids are getting dumber or not, especially given that they are the primary predictor of the SAT, which until recently, was the primary factor to determine whether kids got into elite colleges. So, let me see if I understand this: math is “low level” so … what? Only for TJ? The cutoff score was allegedly dropped by 2 points, so … what? Only for TJ? If it was dropped/ if math is “low level,” if Aquarius was aligned with Mars or whatever other dumb excuses you have, it happened across the board.

If you were a TJ student, I’d agree that they are letting in real dummies these days. As it is, looking at those national merit stats, which ARE IN for classes in the new admissions cohorts (even if it doesn’t include the most recent test takers), it’s obvious that these kids are very impressive. You might even call them very smart. I’d think that for all of you test whores, this stat alone would be a complete refutation of your theory. Unless you just have a silly agenda to drive, which . .

I liked this point. It’s why I’m so deeply grateful we allowed DC1 to go over my reservations but I’m still not sure if it would be the right fit for DC2.

The teachers said the students had “unprecedented supports provided to you this semester, including extra practice quizzes, bonus quizzes, practice worksheets, and a practice final exam, all things that were not given to previous students.”

The teachers continued:

We expected to see scores rise, not drop, with our lowering of standards."

There are roughly 30 new Black kids accepted into TJ if the released percentage of 6% African-American acceptances from earlier his summer is true. (Exact demographics for September 2023 are not yet released).

It takes a heck of a lot more than 30 Black kids to cause "unprecedented" drops. It's the very same majority Asian and White kids (80%+) that are underperforming, as expected after the pandemic.

TJ was virtual longer than any other area high school. It turns out, virtual school is really bad for students.
