This is where people overrate J-R and underrate PG County schools. I presume it’s because folks are white and think PG County schools are as bad as DCPS schools in Wards 7 and 8. If there is any significant enrollment from students in different jurisdictions, it would be DC residents attending PG County schools and not PG County residents sending their kids to J-R.

Almost anywhere else J-R would be considered a below-expectations to middling school, but by DCPS standards it's perceived as a good school.

Yet residents of Suitland have been sued by the city for sending their kids to DCPS. Just speculation, but it has as much to do with convenience of the parents' commute to the city as it does school quality.

One of the more outrageous examples a few years ago was when a DC elementary student brought his parents' heroin to school in a backpack. DC Child Protective Services were called in and the parents claimed there was no jurisdiction because the family resided in PG County!

Same where I lived. But it was the 90's. A few prominent media people did it. And, amusingly, if you needed an ambulance where I was by Lafayette ES, guess who you called? BCC Rescue. And they got there fast. There was a DC fire and EMS house up on Connecticut Ave near Politics and Prose and they could get half a mile before BCC could get there. Sad, but that was DC and its WORSE now.

When I was in HS in the 80's, there were multiple kids in NW who had parents pay to send their kids to BCC to avoid Wilson.

Another great idea. Let's give businesses a tax break when DC needs tax revenue.

You will need a hefty incentive to get a private company interested in redeveloping property covered by historic preservation. It's simply not worth the headache.

It doesn't need redevelopment for office space, that's what it is designed for. It is not designed to code for a school, which is significantly different.

It needs redevelopment because a good portion of it isn't habitable. Also, while it was originally office space, it's not the kind of setup that most modern workplaces desire with the pods/towers so disconnected from each other.
