I just think other options (people) for doing bi-partisan deals are worse. Scalise, Jordan and Stefanik will try to ram down MAGA policies. Sure they won’t get far in the senate. But the one thing that has to get done is the budget. And I see these three nutcases passing so 30% cut to all non-defense agencies.
I agree. I think the House Dems should have tried to make it work longer with McCarthy. The alternatives are way more extreme.
We can’t save you from yourselves.
The Democrats voted in a block with the hard right to oust a moderate Republican speaker. The fallout from that will be felt by everyone, not just the hard right.
McCarthy isn’t a moderate. The fact that he seems to you to be is suggestive of a creeping Overton window.
Politics is about compromise, and electing people who will move your agenda forward. What elements of the Democratic agenda do you think McCarthy should have agreed to move forward in order to secure their votes?
Most Republican House members support aid to Ukraine. How about they actually implement the Republican agenda?

I don't think McCarthy could have moved anything forward to get votes from Ds. They have a strategy of advancing the hard right, as they did in the midterms. An extreme right win is much better business for the left than a cooperative Speaker.

Anonymous wrote:If all the Dems and just a few R’s can oust the speaker, then why can’t all the Dems and just a few R’s elect a RINO speaker? Bottom line is that it’s insane that we would have a shutdown when the vast majority of congressmen/senators think a shutdown would be terrible.

McCarthy voted against the regular transition of power on January 6.
McCarthy knew Trump was funded by Russia and still sucked up to him.
McCarthy facilitated the bogus "Impeachment" proceedings.
McCarthy tried to torpedo the Jan 6 House investigation.
McCarthy messed around with the debt ceiling and then made a deal.
McCarthy then reneged on that deal and very publicly blamed Democrats.
Why on earth should McCarthy be trusted or entrusted with anything having to do with Democrats?
