I think shuttering Jamestown could make sense precisely because everyone would be bused - no more arguing about walking to a closer school. But it makes more sense to use a building in good shape/minimal updating or refreshing for swing space so the run-down schools can be renovated.

I'm tired of excuses like "the boundaries would be too weird." It doesn't matter what a boundary geographically looks like. We can't have perfect little non-intersecting circles around all our schools in a county this populated and this geographically small. I don't care what the boundary looks like or if there are boundary "islands." Just do what needs to be done.

Well, since Jamestown seems to be consistently under-enrolled, maybe it would make more sense to just send as many NES as possible directly there and minimize future ripple effects having to redraw all the boundaries every time Jamestown's under-capacity and Tuckahoe is overcrowded.

Are you a Discovery family? You want Nottingham kids to ride a bus that literally passes by Discovery to get to the further school - Jamestown - just so your kids don't have to move too? Sorry, that's not how this works.

You might want to look at the Tuckahoe walkzone - Plenty of Nottingham students are going to Tuckahoe which can't take anymore trailers.

What does matter are the students that don't want to leave Discovery and Tuckahoe has limited capacity. That will force students into Cardinal (who should go there below Langston). This will create a domino effect pushing students out of Cardinal to Ashlawn.

So your argument is that instead of pissing off Discovery they will piss off Cardinal. So they will move no one from Discovery, leave Jamestown and Taylor significantly under enrolled and instead shuffle kids from Cardinal to Ashlawn who were very impacted in the last boundary adjustment.

NP. I have to say that I do find this a bit screwy. It's like they're intentionally leaving Jamestown underenrolled so they have a place to stash all the prek and SPED classes they don't have/want to make room for at other schools. Just balance enrollment across them all and stop using prek and SPED as pawns in the chess game!

Jamestown is in such a weird place geographically and has the highest percentage of private, it's always been hard to fill. Query why they aren't closing Jamestown?
