She definitly was young enough to explore having kids at that time. I’d bet everyone on this board from the dmv area has friends who had babies in their 40s (I have name five off the top of my head).

And she was no stranger to IVF. Wealthy 42 year old women, especially those who have already done IVF, and had a whole court case over embryos know all about how to have a baby at that age!
Even at her current age, they could have made an embryo with his sperm and a donor egg and she could have carried it. That's what most of these 45+ celebs and their husbands have done.
This obviously came down to whether or not they wanted to raise a child and she simply doesn't want to do that at her age, and who can blame her, especially since she already raised one!
I'm sure they did communicate about all of this. Joe could have his own child and raise him or her with Sophia at any point if they both wanted to parent a child together so badly. She obviously doesn't, and that's fine.

It sounds to me like they both changed their minds a bit. She was probably ambivalent when they got together, and as she got older she was less and less inclined to want to start over with a baby. He probably figured he'd have his own child one way or the other, since he's a man, and just didn't worry about it too much, and as Sophia became less and less inclined, he realized he'd have to move on.

They were together for nearly a decade and seemed really in love at one point, it's not a great tragedy for anyone except maybe the kids he'll eventually have with someone else.

Yeah, I thought that was weird. Though it wouldn't be the first time someone entered into a marriage believing the other person would change. Or his own mind changed at some point.

I’m sure they discussed it. It was pretty obvious and she was already a mom and older and had that horrible saga with her ex-husband over the embryos that she was likely pretty clear she didn’t want kids. I’m sure at the time he was on board with that, and then changed his mind. It sounds like they are both relieved to have moved on and hopefully on good terms.

It’s sad that he didn’t realize this until later. People always say oh men have much more time, but I just don’t think it’s true. Sure if you’re wealthy and successful, you can easily land a younger woman, which he has already done, but he still going to be his age when he has kids and I just would not want to be an early 50s Dad on the playground. And I feel bad for his future young wife who will likely have to take care of kids and probably take care of an aging husband when she still has many years ahead of her.

It’s not for me but to each their own.

As someone who had an older dad growing up, I can't help but agree. my dad was in great shape but I still noticed and felt the age on him. I have conflicting feelings because while I had a great childhood, I became hyperaware of his age and developed anxiety over it.

They moved on pretty quickly so I wonder how long their relationship had been really over for
