While it's not a buzzing metropolis it definitely is a far cry from the countryside that my dh's grandma had described. Perhaps that's Aldie's future.

I bought a house in Ashburn 15 years ago and people thought I was crazy because Ashburn was basically nothing back then. Now I don’t regret that decision one bit. Aldie and that area are already becoming a big thing in that region. 10 years ago, Aldie was 100% woods.

I don’t think this is a nice house. I think this is a big, cheap house in an ugly neighborhood that won’t have proper trees for 50 years. I think these houses appeal to a certain type of person when they are new but then to nobody at all when they are 20-50 years old, so the neighborhood will decline because there’s nothing good about it once it’s not new construction.

My question is why are there never fences with these homes? Does Aldie restrict fencing or something? To me a backyard is useless without a fence.

Why? I hate fences. They rot, lean, fall apart and don't match house to house. Your neighbor puts an ugly one up or asks you to pay to replace one you never wanted in the first place. Yuck.

Unfortunately both people on each side of me have fences.

Get a vinyl or a metal fence. Problem solved.

Hideous, metal fences are only for low class people with pit bulls. And vinyl? Cracks and looks cheap.

Wow, that's crazy appreciation. From 900K to $1.6 million in 3 years. (And I don't for one second believe that any upgrades done by the owners "are worth over $300k.")
