They originally wanted 5 mil + 95K yearly income for 200 years per family. They lowered it down significantly to get to the "next stage", which is far from final stage. It has to pass, and more "studies and evaluations" will be ordered, and more committees started before anything will pass.
Who would be dumb enough not to qualify? They aren't going to define black for fear of offending, so everyone with a braincell still living there will be black

These records are going to be hard to come by. And, there will be people who just *know* they are descendants but cannot prove it. There will be huge uprisings because some people can't get "theirs." It will be a total mess.
There will also be TONS of fraud. Just look at what happened in terms of fraud with the unemployment during Covid in CA.....

(On a side note: Julie Su served as CA Secretary of Labor at the time and she enabled the fraud by directing depts. to not check key eligibility requirements. She has now been nominated by Biden to serve as Sec. of Labor for the US govt.)

NObody should be getting any reparations for any injustices done to their ancestors from other people's ancestors. Reparations are paid to those still alive for the wrongs done to them to ruin their lives. What coulda woulda is hard to quantify. There is literally zero proof that every single black family would have been super affluent had there not been Slavery and Jim Crow. If this were true, then ALL the whites would have been rich now, but tons of them are dirt poor. It's like a wrongful death lawsuit where underwriters are trying to quantify how much someone's life is worth and extrapolating how much they would have earned had they stayed alive. Doing this exercise for a large group of unrelated people is simply moot.
And why should people who weren't the ones to commit the injustices have to pay for the injustices committed by others?

And there are also people who look lily white but had a black slave ancestor as their great great great great great great great grandma and everyone else in their family was white or non-black. This is going to be a mess.

IDK, that was original proposal they "approved" before more "studies and committees". It's just going to be more runaround before they come up with anything tangible, likely reducing the amount more and also increasing qualification criteria. I wouldn't worry about this as a real thing that's going to be some massive wealth transfer from one group of people to another. NObody really is going to want to pay.

You have to prove that you directly descended from an enslaved person on the territory of the USA. That's what I read about their original proposal. It's only going to get harder in terms of criteria the closer it will get (if it ever gets there) to any of this passing and payouts becoming a reality. It will become more specific and requiring historical records and more hoops to jump.

Frankly I'm curious to see what happens when people have to actually pay for an extreme leftist proposal. I wouldn't bet on people sticking around SF if they end up paying the taxes for reparations rather than receiving the benefits. What happens in a municipal bankruptcy when vastly more people apply for reparations than predicted and the funds just aren't there?
