I’m not a huge dc booster of the amazing things about dc is that it has over the past 25 years become a major American city. In all senses of the word and not because it’s a capital (it was a capital in the 1990s but it was provincial as a city).

Have you been to Montgomery? It’s like a small southern town that was frozen in 1955. I was there last year and god was it depressing. Felt dead except for the Legacy museum and memorial. Which also kind of reinforced my feelings about the town.

Interesting perspective! DC population is 700K+, with DC metro area closing in on 6 million. Montgomery AL population is less than 200K.

It’s not about the size, it’s still in the south. South of the macon-dixon line.

Fastest growing in terms of inbound migrations. Why...people look at the weather and the lower housing prices primarily. Soon or later one or both people need more advanced care and zap... said folks are heading home where there are more MDs to treat whatever they have and th waits to get into various health facilities is shorter. One good hurricanee will knock some of them out. Med care is another good excuse. Or looking for better or more plentiful opportunities.

DP here. Actually Mormon wives and white Southern wives have a lot in common. Big emphasis on homemaking and being SAHM’s, having at least 3 kids, dressing them in matching or cutesy clothes, and in general just having their entire identify being motherhood and their children.

Well I was born and raised in Richmond too and that describes every wife/mother I know who still lives here. Sure a couple of them teach preschool 3 mornings a week or sell some sort of MLM, but the rest is absolutely accurate. Also post endless on social media about motherhood. 3 kids minimum.
