He was! But also, he was Hollywood schlubby, which is considerably more mainstream attractive than real-life schlubby. He cleans up nice.

I think Katherine is attractive, too, but in a mainstream America way, and she lives in Southern California, where the expectation is for women to be drop-dead gorgeous by any means necessary.
