Everyone knows it’s pretty much near impossible for this to go on for 15 years without anyone knowing anything. Families of neighboring schools are saying “everyone knew”. Kids talk about things like this. I wish someone had to guts to report. People must be held accountable this time. Or the sex abuse will just keep happening. sp

Absolutely not. He’s a wonderful man who is devastated by these events. I don’t believe for one second that he knew about abuse and did nothing. Parents who know who he is as a person are not speaking such nonsense. -current Gilman parent
1. Not his job to definitively “know” anything. He’s not an investigator. It was his job to immediately notify police when he heard the first rumor regarding potential illegal behavior of the teacher.
2. It was his job to enforce school policy instituted specifically to avoid repeated sex abuse perpetrated by its teachers. He knew teacher was “babysitting” students in their homes and driving them around in his car.
3. This isn’t his first rodeo. See news reports detailing the horrifying sex abuse that was discovered last time. It appears none of the perpetrators were ever held accountable. How could that be?
Well, if you read the actual information, you would know that one of the perpetrators was dead by the time his deeds were discovered, and the other one committed his abuses in the 1950s. I assume that the time that passed would have made prosecution difficult.
I don’t understand why you are pushing this story about willful negligence, when there had been no evidence of such. As an early commenter said, he immediately notified CPS. Not sure why you think he didn’t.
Our recent call with parents, he urged anyone with any information to contact CPS. That’s not what a man trying to execute a cover-up would say.
I really can’t figure out your motive here for posting over and over about how Gilman must’ve known and is culpable and going down in flames blah blah. I can only assume you have some history with the school that causes you to take such relish in something terrible that happened to their community. Please find something else to do with your time.

Civil lawsuits and police investigation will unearth whether any teachers parents or students gave notice to the school that Chris was giving alcohol to kids, acting inappropriately etc. it’s not all about a massive coverup. That’s unlikely. What’s more likely is the school failed to follow their own policies and turned a blind eye to community members saying hey, somethings not right here. If indeed they did fail in that way then they will deserve to pay for it. But I don’t know that, and neither do you. I don’t get this rush to judgment before we actually have any facts.
All we know for sure at this time is that boys have been hurt and a community is in pain. I’m not sure what is served by all the speculation of what “MUST” have happened. And there seems to be vicious pleasure being taken by some commenters here in how Gilman (or, as the most frequent commenter seems to like to call it, gilman) will surely suffer. Old DMV family here. We’ve seen all the scandals from NCS to Gilman to TJ to Georgetown Prep. This one won’t take down the school. Schools learn, move on, and ultimately most kids have good enough experiences that most families still want them. The victims will be the kids who are harmed.
There are lessons to be learned here for the benefit of all. The school will be made better for all with the right lessons, worse with the wrong ones. Having seen Gilman, I give it a good chance they’ll take the right ones.
