God, I miss Swensen’s. Their Swiss Orange Chip ice cream was the best.

Also miss Farrell’s even though I never ordered one of those ice cream monstrosities for myself. Just liked looking at them on the menu.

Also, if you've lived here longer (depending on which part of the city you've lived in), you left the city for a decent grocery store.

I don’t know if New Yorkers are “possessive, but they’ll sure tell you every chance they can that they’re from NY. We get it, the pizza sucks, can’t find a good bagel, nobody gets my NYC humor, everything is better in the city….but here you are.

Rum Buns at Hogate’s! Thanks for the memory. That used to be our “fancy” brunch place. I don’t think it was actually that great, but we didn’t know better.

WHICH Green Book? There were two, and they were very different.



My grandparents weren’t “permitted” in the Green Book (the social one) at first because they were divorced, but at some point the rules changed and my family was in it for several decades before moving away in the 1990s. I’m the only member of my family actually born in DC.
