Solid but Vanderbilt is 2B, pretty disrespectful to put it at 3A in my opinion.

This looks good to me although I don't think Dartmouth should be in 1B instead of Northwestern. I see 1B as the schools that are basically interchangeable with 1A but for different types of students. MIT matches up extremely well with Caltech, as both are highly technical and rigorous schools, but Caltech is more geared towards exceptional researchers. Stanford matches up well with Duke as both are entrepreneurial schools in a sunny/warm backdrop with exceptional sports programs that match their high caliber of academics, but Duke has more school spirit and a sense of togetherness at the undergraduate level. Harvard matches up well with Penn as both are more urban schools with extremely strong finance prospects, but Penn is more hardcore for pure business due to Wharton. Yale matches well with Columbia as both schools are the more arts-leaning elite universities, but Columbia is a better fit for students who want a faster pace of life. Princeton's best match would be Dartmouth as both schools offer intimate and heavily undergraduate-focused experiences, although Dartmouth is more geared for kids who want a more isolated and nature-based college tenure.
I would go:
1A) MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Yale
1B) Caltech, Duke, Penn, Columbia, Dartmouth
2A) Northwestern, Brown, UChicago, Cornell, Williams, Amherst, Pomona

You make some interesting points but I look at it a bit differently. To me 1B is the set of schools that are right there with 1A overall or have a claim to 1A, but just haven't popularly been anointed that yet. I honestly think Yale is on its way out of 1A anyways, and that one of the 1B schools can replace it in the near future. But to me 1B is only Caltech, Duke, Penn, and Columbia, no fifth option. I don't think Dartmouth (or Northwestern for that matter) really has a claim at being 1A. For me it's:
