The thesis and entire point of his memoir was to demonize poor whites and blame them for the opioid crisis — to the benefit of the Sackler family and pharmaceutical industry. Vance and his wife are Ivy League coastal elitists who are so repulsed by “flyover people” they refused to live in Ohio after he was elected.
