If you have never experienced a bad principal good for you. I have, and it had nothing to do with the parents.

I'm an elementary school teacher. My principal is fantastic in so many ways. He cares about the kids and staff, is very present, always does coverage as needed, etc. However, he is not strong at student discipline. The kids get away with so much.

I guess what I am trying to say is that no school is perfect. I love working at my school, but other teachers get so frustrated with the weakness of behavior support from the office. You need to figure out what it is that you don't like about your principal (micromanager, discipline, vibe at the school, etc), and then specifically look for that trait rather than a school that some random person on the internet states is "good."

But I wholeheartedly feel that you should change schools if you are unhappy!

Bumping this thread.

I already know teachers at my school counting down the weeks until they can leave and transfer. It's so sad that even though staff at a school can be great, the principal can make the environment toxic.

Which schools have a good environment so we know where to possibly go next??

She's very polished and great at community relations.

Although not a reflection on the principal, I felt I had to supplement, since any kid reading at or above grade level mostly gets ignored.

I came to comment on this (old) thread to say Takoma Park elementary! I do think MCPS curriculum can be a bit...repetitive in the lower grades, but the school does work in enrichment. Also, that school is a well oiled machine, and in every interaction I've had with Dr. Gadsden she's been empathetic, child-focused, and practical.

The administrative teams at NHE and Oak View are both excellent. The schools are very well run and are able to work well with very diverse learners and communities.

Yet another Stacy!

How specifically is she great? We’ve found her to be horrible in her interactions with many students (not just ours) and worst of all, dishonest.

So DCUM: dig up an old thread to air grievances!

Or to update fellow parents on the current situation at the school. Not sure why you would oppose. 🤔

Not the OP but I suggest you start a different thread for that. This thread is about praising/acknowledging good principals.

Really? I thought it was about taking down other schools and spreading misinformation

Parents giving honest observations and experiences which will naturally diverge from family to family are “taking down a school” and “spreading misinformation”?
