At our school, their initial communication regarding unmasking said that kids could unmask if they were comfortable doing so AND if the people around them were also comfortable with it. They put out a slide presentation that encouraged kids to ask the people around them if it was ok to take off their masks. Then the next day that message was revised and they emphasized that the respect for each others choices had to go both ways. I'm guessing some people complained about the initial message, which could have put kids into the situation you are describing by empowering teachers (and classmates) to express their discomfort with unmasked kids.

Honestly teachers pressuring kids to mask suck.

I’m a teacher who unmasked and I DGAF what parents say. I also don’t care if my students mask or not. The level of unfair pressure on kids throughout this pandemic has been disgusting. Kids have to keep adults healthy and safe? It should be the other way around.

Well, Fauci has said that the Omicron will infect "just about everyone". Do you really think you will be able to avoid a virus that will be with us for the rest of our lives? I don't think that's possible unless you take unsustainable preventive measures that are incompatible with a full life. I hope you won't be imposing such restrictions on your kids until they are grown.

Agree, this is equally terrible, and those parents are probably still working from home.

I'm actually happy about every unmasked teacher I see, because it will benefit their interactions with the kids, and because it's good to see they are not afraid. But those who are afraid should experience no pressure to unmask either.

Wow, what school is this? What grade/ward? I suppose the teacher was reported to the principal and then changed their message? They need to apologize to the kids and make it clear masks are their own choice, so that kids don't feel pressured. We can't have teachers make their own public health policy.

My kids says that her class is about 50/50, and that no one is making a big deal of it either way. She said she prefers to keep masking, so that's what she's doing.
