Was anyone else kind of skeeved out by Iyana's "parents?"
I can't remember the specifics but didn't she say that they adopted her pretty recently, like around age 22? I find it weird that they focus so much on using the term parents. And her dad was talking about children growing up. I mean I know they were her godparents but it all seemed just really a bit much. Like their need to constantly use language about being her parents.
I saw nothing "skeevy" about them, or their relationship as her parents. After all, they were her Godparents before they were her parents. That is the literal definition of a Godparent. The fact that they stepped in and took on that responsibility even later in her life is commendable and selfless of them. I find it interesting that you took a beautiful relationship and twisted it into something suspect, and gross.
I think the PP has no idea what it is to teach adulthood without having experienced consistent love or security. They take their parents for granted probably.
Do you just pull stuff out of your ass routinely? I actually had a really traumatic childhood with no parental support. I still find it very skeevy.

Is that supposed to portray agreeableness or being pleasant? They must suppress so much!

He said he only really likes blonde white girls in their very first meeting, which should have been a HUGE red flag to Deepti. She should have told him to go find a blonde to fetishize somewhere else and walked right then. It's mind-boggling to me that she didn't.

That might explain why healthy parental love looks odd to you, strange and suspicious. I wish you peace.

Anyone overshares about sex
Sal sings a song
Sal plays the ukelele
Mallory says "oh that so cyuuuuute"
Mallory wears a bun
Jarette wears a do-rag
Jarette, Iyanna, Mallory or Sal mention Jarette and Mallory as a couple
Anyone mentions their engagement ring
Anyone mentions owning a home or condo
There's an older white mom on screen who should have used more sunscreen
Anyone mentions having once been fat
Anyone says "in the pods"
Anyone gets into a fight seemingly out of nowhere (looking at you, Nick and Danielle)

That is probably to not make her feel, “ less than.”
She has had a very hard life. I am sure she will take parental love whenever it presents itself. They seem like very genuine, selfless people to me.
I didn’t see that as weird behavior. They had a very jokey way of talking to each other, but Shayne switches in an instant to serious with no real hint or warning for Natalie. My DH did this a lot when we were first dating, so it instantly felt familiar. It’s all jokes and then suddenly he wants you to be serious, but doesn’t say it until he gets mad at you for continuing to joke. Drove me bananas. I called him on it and he’s mostly stopped. Now he’ll switch by saying something like “But seriously…” and I know that’s my cue. Shayne and Natalie didn’t have that worked out yet.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think Nathalie and Shayne are still together. Disagree with whoever said they don’t have chemistry. He couldn’t stop talking about how great their sex life was in Mexico.
The only thing that could break them is his insecurity. However she has a lot of inner strength, so maybe that is his attraction to her. And I think both are basically good hearted people with good intentions. They could go far if he grows up. Then again, you saw her family — the mom is the parent and breadwinner, dad gets to be a good hearted kid. That seems to be the dynamic she is most comfortable with and looking forward to recreating.
I feel like Natalie got a pass on her ultra weird behavior in the early days in Mexico. Like saying he's a piece of shit out of nowhere? She seemed really really off there. I guess it was nerves but I am surprised at how much everyone moved on from that.

I also just started watching Japan.
SO interesting how often the word "kind" comes in when they describe the kind of man they are looking for. I wish US women would put that higher on their lists.
It reflects great values.
(Note also, that they have someone over 40 on there. You did not see that in the US version. Let alone, multiple men who were hair stylists? Any backstory there?)
I am fascinated by Love is Blind Japan but like the society is really sexist. Many of those men were really un-chill w/ the women working and having ambition, in the end. I find the temperaments to be fascinating. And many are MUCH more educated than the people who do reality TV in the US. All were older bc they delay marriage forever in Japan. Largely - it seems - bc the women don’t really feel like signing up for their antiquated gender roles.
Super fascinating to watch it though
