Not PP, but it's one of my favorite cities.

If you like things new and pristine and orderly, it is not the place for you. If you do not leave the French Quarter, you also may be underwhelmed.

However, if you are reasonably laid back, enjoy music, food and drink and have a sense of humor, you're likely to enjoy it.

Ocean City.

For the first couple of years I lived in DC, people were always talking about going to OC. When I finally went there I was so disappointed. Spent a few hours and never went back.

Mackinac Island. I thought it was boring AF, and it takes forever and a day to drive there from civilization.

Las Vegas. So tacky and gross and smells like cigarettes everywhere. Completely depressing to see all the compulsive gamblers feeding their money into slot machines. I thought there would at least be something redeeming about it, but I liked pretty much nothing about it.

The Berkshires. Boring. What is the appeal?


+1 Totally agree. Go on a hike, see a concert at Tanglewood - that's about it. You're done in 12 hours.

I went to Santa Fe for the first time last summer and agree that it shockingly deserted. We rolled into town around 7pm and had a hard time finding a restaurant open for dinner. I still thought it was beautiful, but that part was odd.

That's definitely a COVID problem. When we went it was vibrant and there were lots of local people selling crafts in stalls. I loved it.

I was not impressed with Santa Fe. Maybe it was because of Covid but the whole place seemed deserted and forlorn. Not much activity during the day and at night the streets were empty.

Sydney. The Opera House and the bridge were cool, but the rest of the city was just meh. I enjoyed other cities in Australia a lot more.

The food…are you kidding me? Did you eat all your meals at Bubba Gump’s? New Orleans has AMAZING food.


It's all very heavy and caloric, nothing fresh, and I find shrimp disgusting.

Where were you spending your time? I walked down Bourbon Street once at night and that was surely enough.

Oh yes, Aruba was really disappointing. I was there in Jan 2020. Most of the island is trashy. Restaurants are cheesy and bad.
The whole place is a flash back to the 80s. Lots of drunk people from middle America.
