My kid played on a bunch of AAU teams, and all of those players, coaches and parents would have been mortified at the idea of playing as a team in a county rec/select league. For this team to choose to play in that league and then lose is hilarious.

To be fair, the winning team is the combination of two AAU teams: Nova Cavs and Nova 94 orange team. McLean A is Nova 94 white team. Go figure out yourself.

Its not rec. It is travel basketball.

I'm amused that the dad/coach posted clips from his kid's game without mentioning the score....he always brags when they win. Crickets.

Yeah, the Reston team is the Nova Cavs AAU team. They are really good. But that's a Reston-based team so no one gives them the side-eye.

Holy crap. My son's team doesn't even have an assistant coach.

Which team is it? I am just here with the popcorn with no dog in this fight. So don't know where or who I should be looking at beyond McLean.

But this should be reported. Make a great Patch Story.

I'm sure a quick google search of the parent volunteer names would help provide some context. I know which side my $1 bet would be on...

In that age group of 26 teams.
Almost all the teams have fewer than 4 staff (coaches + volunteers. Many have 1-2 total.

The Turnpike team has 6.
Ft Hunt has 6.
Springfield has 7.
CYA has 11.

The McLean A team has 13.
by comparison, the McLean B team has 5.
(In case the argument is that McLean parents are simply more civic-minded then the rest of northern va).

Draw whatever conclusions you want but those are the facts.

FYI - FCYBL requires each team to have 3 "volunteers" at every game - Building Supervisor (county required), Equipment Manager (COVID) and Scorekeeper/Clock Operator. All volunteers have to be registered on the FCYBL site to be able to help. So teams are strongly encouraged to have all parents sign up (even if they likely won't end up volunteering) so you have as many options as you can get on game days. I don't think this has any relevance for the topic at hand.

As poster above notes, this is the least alarming thing about that team. It's the blatant zip code violations and both letter and spirit of rules being ignored simply because no one's willing to call them on it.

Not sure that any kid will meet the within three feet maskless for more than 15 minutes standard for quarantining if they are playing against a kid who tests positive.

The guidance from FCHD is that fully vaccinated people don't need to quarantine without symptoms, so since kids are people, there SHOULD be no difference in how a basketball game is treated vs. any other situation.

Now seeing how over the top FCYBL is being about Covid, I am a little concerned.

Well, just for instance- my husband is the coach of a team without an assistant coach. I'm not volunteering as an assistant coach b/c I will be taking our other two kids to all their activities while he is with Kid 2 coaching Kid 2's games. After multiple emails, he finally got someone to agree to sign up as score keeper. Still trying to figure out what the heck a "building supervisor" does-no willing takers for that job.

I agree that this team has a lot of very odd things about it but the league seems to be 1000% focused on Covid and not at all on running a basketball league.

Does anyone know, if a player on another team your team plays reports a positive Covid test, we have been assuming that our kids who are fully vaccinated will have zero consequences for that as long as they have no symptoms. That's what everyone else thinks too, right?

Not different than CYA, Fort Hunt, Springfield, Turnpike teams. You guys are reaching. Maybe volunteer.

What makes you think the people posting here don't volunteer?

Because posters are complaining that their team doesn’t even have an asst coach yet alone other volunteers.

Its not weird, he's trying to drum up business for his $$$ personal training business. by volunteering to coach. (I'm assuming he's not paid).
