The GOP has a real problem with pedophiles in their midst; evidently they want a new way to identify potential victims.

Funny how none had a problem with homeschooling children via zoom for MONTHS. I agree with this. What are teachers hiding?

So because she and her right wing friends don't want their kids to see a book with a transgender character those books can't be in the library at all?

Well, now that you bring it up, she’d probably be happier if she didn’t have to worry about her children being exposed to the LGBTQ community on TV or other forms of media also.

I agree that we don’t need transgender transformations being taught or presented to children. I support trans rights. I do not support your politicizing my child’s gender identity or normalizing actions that cannot be undone. I predict that in a few years we will see children suing parents for allowing / forcing them to get gender reassigned.

Sorry, the “this” is this Wikipedia entry about Mein Kampf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mein_Kampf

Some parts of the country are just more comfortable with different forms of censorship. There really isn't anyone that's against censorship.

Lol, you're talking about Mein Kampf and Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

People have stated in this very thread that Mein Kampf should be in libraries.

Why shouldn’t it be? What benefit does remaining ignorant about horrible things have? None, nothing.

When did Republicans begin trying to turn away from reality, as though reality can be denied?

But does Mein Kampf talk about the horrible things as horrible things?

Do you mean did Hitler write about the Holocaust plans? No. So it’s actually instructive in that you can watch the development of the Nazi Party and ideology, specifically how he came to be antisemitic, before the worst of the worst came to pass.

Even reading this you can see the similarities between the GOP and the Nazis, and that’s one of the reasons they don’t like people to read the book; if people can see the path that the Nazis took, they can see the path the GOP is taking, and the whole sick GOP game is exposed.

Sure they have. Btw, even Mein Kampf isnt actually banned. Librarians just know not to order it.

But they should order it. It should be read. It had a massive impact on 20th century history. You can’t know that comprehensively without reading it.

It’s the same reason The Bible and The Koran need to be in those libraries despite the constitutions ban on establishment of religion. (And no I am not comparing the bible to mein kampf, save that for another thread).

People should read a manifesto on exterminating the Jews that led to the torture and murder of 12 million innocent people and a world war that killed an additional 40 million civilians and 25 million soldiers? No, i'm good with people not reading it. I'm also good with the social ostracization of its adherents.

You're good with ignorance?

You can't read anything you find abhorrent?

You don't wish to understand?

You think banning the book from libraries makes the evil ideology behind it go away? To the contrary, it gives it the cover of darkness.

I could not disagree with you more.
