Just like the flu, strep, colds, norovirus, etc. Assess your level of risk tolerance and behave accordingly. Vaccinate, of course, as you would for any highly infectious disease.

Same observations from eastern Massachusetts and central CT over the past 4 days. This includes Boston which technically still has a mask mandate in the city but everyone seems to treat it as optional. All heavily “blue” areas that have stopped treating common sense like a political football. My relatives in both states are amused to hear how ridiculous we are in MOCO.

If by "Friday" you mean "first thing Thursday morning," then yes. The health officer can take as much time as he wants to issue his notification, but the mandate automatically lifts once we've hit 7 consecutive days.

Ate in a restaurant in VA today. Most people, even wait staff, were without masks. The wait staff must be vaccinated per the restaurant’s rules. I am vaccinated as well. Not everyone wears a mask once vaccinated.

Yeah. I mean we’ve not had the mandate in Fairfax for many months and things have been going ok. People have been making their own choices and there is no massive carnage. We’ll see how winter goes.

You seem confused about why Covid will kill fewer people as it becomes endemic. It quite likely will not get less virulent- Delta is already very infectious early in the disease progression, so a less deadly version probably wouldn't have a competitive advantage in transmission. Instead, two things will happen. First, the spread will slow down a bit. We're not sure how much, particularly given that the vaccines are about 80% effective at preventing infection. So, there's still a very good chance you'll be repeatedly exposed to Covid throughout your life.

Second, individuals will develop their own immunity over time, or die trying.

It doesn't particularly matter whether you get Covid now or 5 years from now. Provided you've been vaccinated, the outcome would likely be the same.

We have flu vaccines. The government should apply the same pressure to vaccinate for the flu and at the same time maintain enhanced mitigation protocols as it did for Covid. Why throw off the positive prevention measures that worked for reducing the spread of Covid?
