Auburn recruiter said it would be far more competitive this year and suggested reapplying in the spring. I think they are having a moment and trying to capitalize.

Of all the schools, AL has the most name recognition and biggest alumnae network. Feeling relieved that the option is there.

Didn’t bother with UMCP (too selective). Zero interest in other MD state schools.

This is my child (actually a little lower on the GPA and a little higher on SAT). Applied test optional. Accepted Michigan State, University of Tampa, Ole Miss and LSU. Waiting on a few others. So many schools out there that appreciate B students who have other things to offer the college community.

But, if you have a senior who made it to October of senior year with no college list, or even a clue where to apply, maybe he isn’t ready for college? Even if parents are not at all involved, my FCPS kid has had a junior planning night, a senior planning night, 2 mandatory post-grad planning sessions with her counselor. Cannot get the mandatory school rec without filling out the counselor packet. And having me fill out the counselor packet. She to ask for recommendations before last spring and compete surveys for her recommenders. Deadlines have already passed to request transcripts to some schools.

Has he asked for recs, met with his counselor, etc?

I guess what I’m getting at is if he has no idea at this point in the process, maybe he isn’t ready for college next year. Has he considered a gap year? Or community college and transfer to a 4 year school. Is he just not engaging in the process. If so, maybe he’s not ready yet. Doesn’t man he won’t be in a year or two.

More suggestions (mixture of big and small and trying to only name schools I haven’t seen previously mentioned): Kent State, Ohio University, Susquehanna, Pitt branch campuses as you can transfer to Pittsburgh campus junior year, Marshall in WV, University of Hartford, Slippery Rock, Ohio Wesleyan, John Carroll in Cleveland, Duquesne.

Recommendations letters from known entities with FERPA waived is the strongest non-statistical asset for the unhooked.

Are those schools test optional? Yes. Are quite a few of those schools reaches for his gpa? Also yes.


Which are a reach?


i got into trinity with a 3.7 weighted and test optional last year. but i hate it. horrible dorm buildings, culture of hard drugs. do not send ur child there
