Not true in my experience, at least on the boys side. The coaching is/wasvery good, and some players develop well and become players on the red team, but the club has a small player pool and will have difficulty competing against teams from much bigger cities and towns.
I’ve repeatedly heard that VYS has a “small player pool” but don’t understand why that is the case. There are no official boundaries for clubs. VYS is centrally located in the heart of Fairfax County, a massive county with many players and clubs. Why would VYS’s player pool be any smaller than McLean or BRYC?
VYS may be drawing fewer players, but that’s not due to any inherent limitations in the available player pool. Clubs compete for players. Saying VYS has a small player pool sounds to me like an excuse for not attracting more players and building more competitive teams.
I get that there’s a chicken-and-egg dynamic to this — to have success you need to attract players, and to attract players you need to be successful — but that’s always the case for every club.
VYS could be bigger and more competitive than it is.

Yes, because it's a baseball town!

Agree with this - experience on the girls side of things - coaching was awful for Black and below. Having been to several clubs tryouts VYS, McLean, Arlington - both McLean and Arlington drew kids from outside their respective boundaries. VYS was just Vienna kids.

Likewise, going winless in the top flight doesn't mean a team is worse that a team that wins a mid level flight
We are in a VYS forum. I don't think anyone thought it was the top flight. Context matters.
then why brag? It's not a marker of a club's success to have a team win the bottom division of a tournament. it's great for the kids and they should be happy and proud, but winning a bronze flight doesn't make you a better club than one whose teams lose in platinum
For the VYS/ Arlington scrimmages: The VYS 07 & 06 teams are really struggling. They are lucky Arlington didn’t score 20+ on each of them.
Didn't the 06 boys team win their Jeff Cup bracket?
Yeah, that is not bragging.
But it is an opening for someone to come in and say they aren't that good. Laughable.
Brackets for Arlington tournament are out. 07 Eagles are in the 4th division with Arlington Black (and other teams of course). That's Arlington's 5th team. I guess that shows us what Arlington thought of the competitiveness of the scrimmage in the Fall.
