Reality is only Fox Mill parents want to leave SLHS, kids would rather stay at SLHS with their peers and communities and IB.
You are still on this kick? I don’t think anyone from Fox Mill has said anything about Crossfield. The people discussing Crossfield are the people who are arguing about staying at Oakton and moving.
I know some Fox Mill family will come out saying that is not from Fox Mill.
Truth is pro Western crossfield family never has ill intent to send other crossfield family to SLHS. There might be some disagreement within crossfield, but we all wish the best to other crossfield families.
We also wish the best for Fox Mill family so you eventually can stay SLHS or somewhere else for AP and IB.

Many of the communities potentially getting pulled into the WHS have similar house prices/ household incomes to those zoned to Crossfield with the exception of some outliers east of West Ox rd. Nice job trying to get people fired up though!
+1
Balancing SES is not the issue. But, the Western school should have a very good balance with plenty of high achievers.
The decision should be made on what works best for the most kids.
To me, it is clear:
reducing overcrowding
neighborhoods
proximity
Option A--but add all of Floris students.
It reduces overcrowding at Chantilly.
Frees up some space at Westfield where there is lots of new construction and with minor adjustments can help free space at Centreville.
Reduces long bus rides to Oakton
Keeps neighborhoods together.

Distance does not represent bus ride time.
It take longer bus ride for east side of West Ox road going to Carson, than the bus ride to Oakton. As Carson is closer to east side of West Ox road than Western, the bus ride for east side of West Ox road going to Western will definitely longer than the bus ride to Oakton.

I know the current moms think they are rooted in the Oakton community but moms of toddlers aren't at all. They would prefer the closer school.
I don’t know that to be true. I’m indifferent on the outcome but in my neighborhood currently zoned to Oakton we have several families with kids in preschool who are recent home buyers and just as fired up as some of the families with older kids. I try to remind them we have no idea what any of the schools will be like in a decade plus.
By the time preschoolers are in high school, there definitely won't be space for them at Oakton. They will end up at South Lakes or Herndon. Western is a better bet. It's ridiculous that parents can't see that.
How do we know if Crossfield moves to the Western High School those toddler-aged kids won’t be rezoned in 10-12 years to South Lakes, etc. It’s anyone’s guess. People need to make near-term choices. Once Western High School almost certainly performs well, people will jump at the chance to move into the boundary.
Western is the closest to our homes. Fox Mill is in Reston, they should remain at South Lakes.

Western is closer to Fox Mill then South Lakes. The bus ride is not the bus ride to Oakton difference, I understand that, but the school is closer to Fox Mill ES than SLHS. And the Fox Mill kids attend Carson so moving with their Carson classmates to the Western HS would make sense. We are opting in and know other families doing the same thing. I strongly suspect that there will be a lot of pupil placement into Western from SLHS because it is near by and has AP and the kids will know more kids there.

.2 mile difference is insignificant. You are already at South Lakes which is not far or overcrowded.
Franklin Farm goes to Oakton and Chantilly, not South Lakes.
