The motion passed that Reid must present a plan sometime this spring that would place AAP at every middle school. So the board has only passed making a plan. They haven’t voted on implementing it.
I’m confused about why that previous poster said “It already passed. Keep up.” If the only thing that passed was the requirement to submit a plan.
It’s one thing to be smug and right, but to be smug and not right is something else altogether.
Anyway, I think getting rid of AAP centers has broad support across Fairfax.

South Lakes will be impacted for sure. Some of Floris kids go to South Lakes and it’s almost certain they will go to KAA. Potentially Fox Mill as well.
How full is South Lakes currently? If they lose some kids, will they need to backfill it? I wonder if some would get moved from Oakton to South Lakes to do that. It would get rid of the long bus ride for some Oakton kids though I bet they will fight that change.

AAP students from Hughes have been attending SLHS for a while now, the IB numbers bump has not happened. Fifty kids completed the IB diploma last year. The Hughes students can transfer for IB or for Japanese, which they can take at Hughes and continue at SLHS but not HHS.
Historically how many South Lakes IB diploma candidates have been base school Herndon? This AP Herndon to IB South Lakes is the only one in FCPS that's volumes incoming for IB. Skip Edison because it has Global STEM.
Japanese Immersion is at Fox Mill and JIP also used to be at it's neighbor [contiguous boundaries]Floris. A merger but Great Falls with low enrollment/attrition still has JIP. Immersion MS transition for Japanese is at Carson and Cooper, not Hughes.

My stance is that it’s a bad look to put your kid up to complain about how horrible it would be to get moved from their rich school to a lower SES school with a different kind of minority they don’t seem to want their kids to be around. It’s gross behavior.

That is absolutely true--we had a neighbor that moved to one of those developments on the Herndon side of RT 7 because it was zoned for Langley. That was their reason for moving there. Honestly, I was a little insulted--and I didn't even have a kid in school yet.
It wasn't just random remarks by SB members. The SB adopted revisions to a policy on boundary changes that suggested transportation times were going to be a big focus in the boundary review, and then Reid's consultants ignored the longest commutes in the county.
We all know why. Look at the composition of the BRAC. We know those people had a lot of influence. Look at the guy who got his neighborhood moved to Oakton. Reid admitted he was the reason that change was made.
I wonder about BRAC and that tiny part of Fairfax High that is in Scenario 4 for Chantilly. It is tiny. Make no sense.
Is that neighborhood City of Fairfax?
If they aren't, that is why they are being moved.
Fairfax City is its own entity.
I don't think this is accurate. I used to live at an address between Fairfax County Parkway and Fair Oaks Mall, and it was definitely not City of Fairfax. That area is still zoned to Fairfax.

Other neighborhoods can be zoned to Fairfax High School if there is space.
But if there is rezoning out of Fairfax High School, only non City of Fairfax homes can get rezoned out.
City of Fairfax homes are guaranteed a spot at Fairfax High School.
Fairfax High School belongs to City of Fairfax, with financial and some administrative ties to FCPS.
If needed, your old neighborhood can be resoned out of Fairfax HS, while City of Fairfax homes cannot.
Fairfax HS is owned by City of Fairfax. They have a contract with FCPS to run the daily operations of the school.
