I don’t know that to be true. I’m indifferent on the outcome but in my neighborhood currently zoned to Oakton we have several families with kids in preschool who are recent home buyers and just as fired up as some of the families with older kids. I try to remind them we have no idea what any of the schools will be like in a decade plus.
By the time preschoolers are in high school, there definitely won't be space for them at Oakton. They will end up at South Lakes or Herndon. Western is a better bet. It's ridiculous that parents can't see that.
How do we know if Crossfield moves to the Western High School those toddler-aged kids won’t be rezoned in 10-12 years to South Lakes, etc. It’s anyone’s guess. People need to make near-term choices. Once Western High School almost certainly performs well, people will jump at the chance to move into the boundary.
Western is the closest to our homes. Fox Mill is in Reston, they should remain at South Lakes.
Fox Mill is not in Reston or Herndon, it is technically in that Oak Hill area. We pay to use all Reston services and an out of town fee in Herndon. Our address is Oak Hill, even if most of us use Herndon as a descriptor because no one knows where Oak Hill is located.

I doubt that Fox Mill will be moved because I think that people are worried are about what happens when those kids are moved. They were moved there 20 some years ago to improve test scores, which happened. And so the people who don’t like IB will pupil place to Western. I will guess that the numbers will increase because people will prefer Western to Herndon and they can choose the special program tracks for moving.
Maybe if the school board listened to the thousands of kids who leave IB schools across the county for AP and set up IB as an opt-in program at a few schools while offering full AP at all schools there would be less pupil placement. But the school board doesn’t listen so there you are.
.2 mile difference is insignificant. You are already at South Lakes which is not far or overcrowded.

Western is closer to Fox Mill then South Lakes. The bus ride is not the bus ride to Oakton difference, I understand that, but the school is closer to Fox Mill ES than SLHS. And the Fox Mill kids attend Carson so moving with their Carson classmates to the Western HS would make sense. We are opting in and know other families doing the same thing. I strongly suspect that there will be a lot of pupil placement into Western from SLHS because it is near by and has AP and the kids will know more kids there.

Why do South Lakes and Herndon always have to be used as a fear tactic by Crossfield families that want to go to Western? It’s a bit off putting.
I'm the person you're responding to. I have nothing against South Lakes (other than I prefer an AP school), but the wealthy pro-Oakton crowd sure do.
But I haven’t seen anywhere in this thread where any pro-Oakton person has said anything about South Lakes. I don’t doubt outside of DCUM but all we are seeing is your comments even if they are coming from a well-meaning place.
DP. It's for sure been brought up at least a couple times in this neverending thread.

I know Fox Mill people hates it, but there are options, such as the road going under Viking Dr. instead of having a traffic light.
It’s all green space on google maps.
I'm not sure I understand your argument here. Parents have never complained about this drive when going to/from Carson. Why are they complaining about it now?
Carson has a smaller footprint than the new Western HS. But I don't expect they build that road after 30 years of resistance.
Are you insane? The roads around Crossfield/KAA are built for traffic that is going on to 28, a highway. I think it's just fine for "high school traffic".
I am talking about McClearan stopping at West Ox and reappear at lawyers road. The whole middle section is missing and there is no good way for Fix Mill going to Carson except going thru neighborhoods
I'm not sure what you expect them to do about it - isn't there a neighborhood in the way?
I think there is not. Road was planned. There is right of way.
