There is no negativity with the BF parents about anything because I’m one of them. All the girls that made Capital are excellent players and a great fit for Capital. The others did not fit their mold and have found other places to play. I commend all of them, the freshman and older girls, for just wanting to contribute to play the game we love to watch

If you think the private schools don’t have orange or Pride girls on their team, you are delusional. They even have girls that don’t play club

But some of the stuff about BF, just stop. I for one can say it is not me posting anything negatively about your daughters, but I do get tired of grown a$$ men degrading young ladies. All you are doing is embarrassing yourself

If you notice, when BF played YT, none of the FANS from YT complained (yes, there was an unfortunate incident, but I hope this is fully resolved and won’t ever happen again). And now with the Madison parents, nothing but mutual respect. Anytime we have played teams, there is a level of respect. Yes, we are VERY loud (and you know what pal that is) but it is not anything unlike any other schools who are invested in their kids sports).

I believe The real reason people hate BF so much is because we come from a lower set of income that the other high income schools, so we are looked down upon. I’m not saying BF parents are poor, because they are not. What I am saying is that Prince William as a whole is a much poorer county than all of the other surrounding counties

Now, what is interesting about this is that neither Arlington County nor Loudon County parents ever, or rarely disrespect BF on the board. It mostly comes from the Fairfax and Alexandria parents

And yes, we know who most of them are. A couple were former parents (which is unfortunate, because their parents were loved by the team, but they needed change, and change is ok).

So, yes, we as a school at BF have been working hard to gain respect in Northern Virginia as an actual contender. That is probably why you hear so much about us. I know we can be a little much. But in all honesty, we love our girls the same as you do. I will NEVER trash your daughter, and if anything comes out of my mouth that is interpreted that way and you point it out to me, I promise you that I will think about that to understand why it was interpreted that way so it doesn’t happen again. Because the last thing I ever want to do is disrespect your daughters

So, I would very much like to ask that we all talk about lacrosse, trash talk each other in good harmless fun, BUT, today we keep it respectful and all about lacrosse

Now, I know people are going to continue to rip BF apart. So be it. But I will kindly request that if you are going to talk negatively about BF to NEVER talk negatively about a specific player. There has been a ton of talk about our ASU commit (who has been an amazing leader this year) and now the freshman who won the game against Madison. This is not OK. Today is all I ask. Nothing negative about specific player on ANY TEAM. Let’s try to be better. Because what we do in private will be seen by someone who matters even more in the end.

As far as the, well she needs to go to a private school theory. None of these girls are going pro. So they want to continue to play with the girls they have grown up playing with, and continue to go to school with their friends in order to have a nice balanced life. So please keep you, private schools are so much better theory to yourself. We are fine. If one or more of them want to leave and go to a private school, I for one will be sad to see them go, but I will 100% support them, because that means they think that it’s best for their kid. It’s none of my business, just like it is none of yours

The last thing I want to point out, you all think there is a riff at BF amongst the parents or players. What I would also like to point out is that BF is one of the BEST traveling teams in the state. Our parent sideline is always full of parents to support each other and our players

I think the reason people bag on BF a lot is because they’ve had such an easy path to the state finals for years based on the region they are in. It has NOTHING to do with their parents’ income. If they were in the competitive regions they would never have made it as far as they have in states. They have a lot of runner-up trophies solely based on the region they are in but they were far from the 2nd best team in the state. Facts.

I also went to the BF-Madison game with my daughter to see our friends on both sides. Both fan bases where into the game but respectful, even with the refs who were terrible and screwed both teams at different inopportune times. It was a lot of fun.

That being said, I agree with your thesis on the BF path to the final and have heard BF parents and players say the same thing. I hate the district, regional, state, format where you can lose and move on. I know it has to be at least partially regional but couldn't we just have a "conference" tournament and then one big state tourney like the NCAA?

But, I think you're wrong about income. All you have to do is read this thread. There's a lot of shade thrown at places the further away they are from DC. It at least has something to do with it. But let's be honest, I bet it's that way in NY, PA, and New England too.

Watch this everyone

Then we can agree to disagree. I have seen the disrespect from Fairfax team (the parents, not the players) when they come to Prince William and how they interact with them. It is a very real thing

Now, I’m not saying the Prince William kids are perfect because they do the same thing to Stafford and spotsy as well

But let’s not kid ourselves. It is a very real thing

And yes, the playoffs suck. But that’s not BFs fault. They had one bad year, their first year in the state finals. The second year they lost by one. Do they didn’t deserve that second place trophy? Let’s not minimize things to fit your agenda

As for the private thing, if that’s what is best for their kids, then that’s great. But don’t think for a second that every public school kid wants to go private. There is more to life than playing lacrosse

I’m the BF parent that wrote the long winded post earlier.

I don’t buy this statement either. Every player has their strengths and weaknesses. Capital looks for a very specific player. Just because that player didn’t fit their mold don’ doesn’t mean they aren’t good players, and just because Capital took a player from a private school or not doesn’t mean they made it because of the private school factor. But Capital has a very specific criteria, and not every girl will fit that. And that’s ok

Two very meaningful posts above from a very sincere BF parent, and the only lax dad I know with the guts to put his name behind his words in this forum. Good people and good thoughts.

As a neutral on this one, but a close follower of VA Public lacrosse, I would echo two things: (1) Battlefield's rise should be celebrated in an era when too many come on here just to decry the declining state of VHSL lacrosse. It shows competitive and geographic growth which is welcome. More than perceived SES, I believe some of the negativity toward BF has been driven by jealousy of how the playoff brackets were structured in the past, which gave BF a clearer path to the State finals than historical power programs in Fairfax and Arlington; that has been rectified. And yes, maybe a bit by the BF fans' special brand of enthusiasm. That said, things seems to be going pretty well in real competition this year, including fan behavior, and the playoffs are shaping up to be among the most exciting and competitive in years;
(2) the sentiments on the fact that we are talking about kids playing a game, having meaningful moments of growth and resilience, are directly on point. It's just not appropriate to talk about other's children in a specific and negative way, here or elsewhere, in a public forum. It's not funny, or cool, or "just trolling." It's classless. And when adults do it, it's absurd and self-indicting. You may be anonymous, but you know you posted. Agree strongly with the call to be better and move on. Looking forward to a great postseason.

I am not a Battlefield hater or fan, but I respect that they've climbed from the oblivion to be regularly good and compete at the highest level. A few years ago, they couldn't beat Fairfax teams, now they do it regularly. It's not been one player or class, it's been a full program that has developed. Even if I may not want to see it, I suspect they will win a state title at some point in the next 4 years given their trajectory. They should get credit for working their way to it when they do.

Hey all, Jeremy McGonigle here. It’s not often I post on these forums, but seeing recent comments on this thread made me feel that someone had to.

My oldest daughter (Jr.) is a Captain at Westfield, refs lacrosse for the younger age groups, and has committed to play collegiate lacrosse in an environment that she feels “fits” into her plan and puts lacrosse in the place she wants it to have in her life. My youngest daughter (Fr.) is probably best known on this thread as “The Westfield Goalie”. She has put in a ton of work and earned some accolades along the way, definitely had some games she wasn’t happy with her performance in, failed in her first attempt trying out for the U16 National Developmental Team, and is still working through her long-term plan and where lacrosse fits into that. They are both productive in the other aspects of their life, and comfortable in their lacrosse journey. I’m very proud of them both.

For the person who commented that the BF girl “forces the ball constantly” – a few years ago I would’ve agreed with you - when she was a 6th grader. Last spring/summer, while she was on am 8th grade team with my youngest, I watched her tally nearly as many assists in creating for her teammates as goals she finished for herself. It seems she saw something in her younger self that she wanted to change, focused/worked on it, and grew from it. I also saw her not make the Capital teams, which had been a dream of hers for years. In that moment her dream was shattered - I saw her go through the disappointment and doubt, then find a different club, set a different path and get back to her grind. Over the last nearly year, she has put in a ton of work to further improve and grow herself into the player she is now. I can’t help but be proud of how she’s faced the setbacks she’s experienced and stayed at her grind to impact her future.

My daughter and I went to the Madison-BF game on Wednesday, in part for her to see the various teammates she’s played with over the years, and in part just to watch what we felt would be a competitive lacrosse match. The game did not disappoint. Two well prepared teams, who both wanted the win equally as bad, battled each other for the entire game. Both teams made mistakes, fought back, and the momentum swung back and forth. Both goalies had very good games, making critical saves to keep their teams in the match and both gave some goals I’m sure they’d want to have back. The parents/fans for both sides were truly engaged in the game, nearly all positive. Cheers exploded, from the sidelines and stands, as plays were made by both teams on both sides of the field. It appeared to me that the Madison strategy was to minimize the impact of the BF’s Sr. Commit (which they executed very well) and make the rest of the BF team step up to beat them. Madison got up by 3 goals at one point, and BF found a way to battle back to a tie and, with less than 5 seconds on the clock, the girl that’s being discussed rose to the occasion and finished the game with an off-handed shot. It was her 6th of the game. Make whatever comments you feel necessary, but on that night, in that moment #11, together with the rest of her team, met the challenge together and found a way to get the job done. Period. It’s a game that I’m sure the girls who played in it will remember for a long time and, my guess, will all look forward to any re-match that may happen. That is sports; that is competition.

After the game the Madison goalie, with whom my daughter has played club lacrosse, came up and they were talking. One of the things she said to my daughter was “#11 was very good tonight”. Even in that moment, which must’ve been a very tough moment for her personally, the Madison goalie found it in herself to show sportsmanship and respect for the competitors she just faced. Her actions show a ton of character, and is something we can all be proud of her for.

My point, in what many of you will feel is a long-winded post, is that every post we make here is actually about a moment in, or a portion of, a child’s (or multiple children’s) lacrosse journey(s). We can either choose to support them, all of them, in their setbacks and celebrate their accomplishments or we can choose to emphasize their setbacks and belittle and minimize their accomplishments. Every team we put down, every player we talk negatively about, every negative comparison we make between teams is about those kid’s journeys. We can’t, on one hand say we support our girls and women’s sports in general, and on the other let our behavior minimize the positive moments for them or contradict/tear down the very core values and life lessons that the sport should be teaching them to begin with.

We’ve all heard the saying “a rising tide lifts all ships”. I challenge all of us to look at our children as those ships and work together, as their parents, to be that tide for them. If we can’t do that, let’s at least put our names to our posts so that we’re transparent and own our actions openly. Just my two cents, and I appreciate you taking the time to read it.

I respect your post and do agree with a lot of it, but I don't think you can blame a large part of the hate on people's bias towards the SES of the Battlefield student population. Obviously, a significant reason for the hate is that SOME (surely not all) Battlefield parent have made your team a target by constantly coming on here to boast about their team, particularly their "magnificent 7", since before the season even started. These are clearly some of the same overzealous people who made the 2028 thread infamous. When you put yourselves on such a pedestal or course people are going to want to see the parents in particular eat some humble pie.

BF better be 15 goals better than Langley for you to have that much chest.

No one on this board cares about SSSAS

And it looks like the BF girls want it….they would destroy any of the private JV teams with this year. Invite them to the SSSAS Spring Fling in 2 years and they will not lose

Again, same BF dad. You are right. We know that we would not beat them this year. But what we are saying is that we can complete with the best now and in a couple of years, I do think we would have our best shot at possibly beating them or at least coming close

Maybe BF/Stars dad should do some self reflection. Looks like other BF players had no problem making Capital, and BF would struggle against GC, SR, VISI and SSSAS's JV Teams which is the level of "same field" BF would be on. If I was a BF parent I would be looking to get my kid to a private to get away from the negativity.

Constant hating on clubs, schools and players and then defensive when its dished back at you.
