I'm not complaining because the weather was awful- but at ASR last year, there was no one directing traffic on Braddock (at least the two times I crossed). It was a pretty scary crossing, because by the end it was rush hour and cars weren't expecting hordes of people. So I think safety is important to consider...

OKM would have to clear out large trees that bump against the fence, but maybe they are already doing that with the renovation.

Picture a pool shaped like a lower case t. Short course events swim the short leg across the t. Long course events swim the long leg, the vertical portion of a lower case t. This configuration leaves both sides of the short course lanes mostly surrounded by water which limits spectator options to further away from the action or to the start / turn ends of the pool.
I can’t find a great photo, but the difference b/w Orange Hunt and OKM is OH has bleachers outside the fence at the turn end. I heard OKM is expanding the concrete patio at the fence/start end (the “forest” end) and it may be ready by summer swim. I don’t know that it does much for a viewing area, but it will help the start end of swim meets which are really crowded down there. I’d be more worried about people parking at the Lutheran Church across BCP and crossing with no light and no crosswalk. Sadly, BCP is a death trap.

I swam in the 80's (not here) and my folks rarely were at a meet, and if they were it was one of them, not both. And I swam in divisional, IAS style meets. Us kids were on our own. So it was a much smaller to-do.
Please let me know if this area was this OOT even back then.
I grew up here and population and density was much less. So it could be the same event but there would be less cars on the street, more green space in general. And, yes, less family would attend and feel the need to "film" their kids.

and to the people about 1985, I in all seriousness would love to know if it was as huge then. did every team have multiple tents? Did several members of the family come, grandparents, siblings, etc.
I swam in the 80's (not here) and my folks rarely were at a meet, and if they were it was one of them, not both. And I swam in divisional, IAS style meets. Us kids were on our own. So it was a much smaller to-do.

Parents would just watch at OKM where they watch during regular season meets... if the viewing isn't great, due to the t-shaped pool meaning you have to spectate from further away, so be it. No pool is perfect. Any pool could come up with an excuse why they can't ever take a turn hosting.

When Orange Hunt hosted IAS, spectators were at the turn end (start end for 8 and unders). It happens. No riots. Bad spectator areas are the least of the NVSLs concerns.
once again, if you have ever been to OKM you would understand. The spectators can't be behind the turn or start, and there is no efficient way to get the spectators in and out. I've been to Orange hunt, there can be a flow in and out. No good side of the pool viewing either because it is water.

In 1985, was it just top 12? Did they have 100IMs then? Was 25fly an event for 8U? Just curious what the IAS were in 1985 so i can understand the differences if any.
