I'd love to chime and say "no, too many risks! not fair to the child! crazy!" but if it was my one and only shot, yes, I would do it, provided I had the resources to care for the child without putting financial burden on them in my old age, and drive to build a strong community for them. With a 43 yo parent, that's really not all that risky, and it's always a good idea to have a strong community .

Nope! I know too many people who have had a surprise cancer diagnosis and died in their 50’s.

This is your parents’ problem. I'm in my forties with several friends who have young kids and still have energy for all of those things.
+1. This is not normal. There are 70 year olds running marathons. I’m in my mid 40s and feel amazing. I would have another but my husband is a hard no.

My friend didn't think she could become pregnant at 50, but did. Baby is healthy, they are happy. They also don't have tons of money. If you want to do this, then hurry up and make it happen.

This is your parents’ problem. I'm in my forties with several friends who have young kids and still have energy for all of those things.

Had a friend in college who had old parents. They could no longer drive themselves so she had to go home every weekend to take them grocery shopping. She was a 'miracle', only child baby born when her mother was 50. At the time I couldn't imagine being 20 and being responsible for two old people who needed a lot of care and being the only one available to provide it. It really limited her own life in terms of career choices, grad school, etc.
