They just folded 2-3 teams. That club is about to die.
Please do tell...

VLC had big numbers at their tryouts. We were at Express as well - they had a lot of kids, but half or more of the kids were pure rec kids who are not good enough for club. Also a joke that they charge $95 which is 2x more than anyone else.
A buddy had his kid go to the 1st day of 3d tryouts. Said the turnout was pitiful and they didn't go back.
The clubs are really money makers for the club owners. If your high school has a top lacrosse program, don't need the clubs. Kids just need to stay in condition for spring tryouts. Save your money or throw it away...
Agree that clubs are real money makers for the club owners. To make matters worse, said club owners are for the most part insufferable ass-hats. That being said, if your kid's goal is to be recruited to play college lacrosse, the club team is a necessary evil.

On the boys side, they have had college commits each of the last 2 years, if that is something important to your family.
And Sidwell had a commit this year too. Not many by the standards of Landon or Bullis or Prep, but that aside, impressive by national standards.

From what I heard from a friend who's son played on the 2020 team, kids are leaving. 3D has a big name nationally, but hasn't taken off here in the Mid Atlantic. He is now shopping around for another club for his son to play on.
As for playing club or not and paying the $$$ and determining if it is "worth it" is a family decision. Our son has played for a local club program for several years, as well as individual showcases. With the recent shift in early recruiting the # of coaches prowling the sidelines is considerably down for his class (2020).
That being said, there is no comparison to the exposure received at club/showcase events vs. high school games. MIAA, IAC, etc. coaches all have college connections - but logistically, it's impossible for D1 - 3 coaches to watch a high volume of individual high school games. They've got their own season to focus on. Targeting a specific player? Sure. But for sheer exposure, club/showcases will net you 10X the number of eyeballs.
Lacrosse is not a money sport. D1 12.6 scholarships; Ivy zero scholarship dollars. We view lacrosse as another lever our son can pull in the admissions process, in hopes of tipping the scales for a potential reach school (e.g. Princeton). It's his passion, so we pave the path. Success is up to his work ethic and commitment. So far it's been working out well for us. Your mileage may vary.

OMG this is the worst advice on this thread. Kid who want to play in college, and by middle school most serious players do, have to play club. It is how you get recruited. High school coaches have input and help but if you dont play club on a top team you wont get ntoiced nd no college coaches will guess you are a serious player.
