My kid on black stopped practice a month ago and won't start again until mid-January where it will be once a week. My red team kid has had scrimmages set up on weekends throughout this dead period too. Also - VYS has games professionally taped for all the red (Phoenix) teams so the coaches can review them with the kids. And I pay only $100 more over the course of the whole year.
Must depend on the age. I have a Red player at VYS now, and they are not practicing right now either; practice stopped in November after the last tournament; practice will resume once per week in January. No scrimmages setup during this dead period for my son's Red team. And VYS has never taped any of our Red team games the entire fall season.
So, not doubting your experience, but it's not just a Red vs. Black thing ... our Red team has none of the stuff you've mentioned.
Guessing your son is younger than U13? The games recorded have been U13 and up.
Not sure why they just don't record all the way down to U9s?
McLean doesn't even tape their ECNL games. Must be nice to have footage available to send coaches if you want to play beyond HS. All the McLean dads have to buy GoPros and run up and down the field taping their kidsAnonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Well the way it is now there is a big difference. Where would they go?
On the boy side, back to NCSL.
I think they could do CCL. They have enough teams in each age group, don't they? CCL would take them.
I heard that the club announced the Eagles 06 and older were moving to NCSL for the spring season.

CCL2 would be a better fit.

There is a HUGE difference at VYS between the red and black teams especially as they get older. I have 2 kids there one on red and one and black. The red team gets everything and the black team is just there to help pay the bills. Club fees have a $100 difference over the course of the year and the red team gets an additional practice each week, practices over the winter, gets better coaches, goes to more and better tournaments etc... It's my biggest complaint of VYS.
I have had kids play on VYS Red, VYS Black ... and even other VYS team, White I think it was ... over the years.
I didn't notice any real difference between the Red and the Black in terms of what you mentioned ("the red team gets everything") ... certainly the Red and Black teams frequently mixed it up during practice. Coaches were both pretty good, professional, etc.
I wasn't happy with the VYS White team experience. Not that it was anything they didn't "get" ... but they did not have enough players, several games with no subs, or even playing down a man because not enough players showed up ... there was never any use of Black or Red players to support the team in those cases ... the coach was disinterested and the players discouraged etc.
This was a few years ago at this point.
