Underpaid?

We were talking about salaries upthread. Here is an L5 at Mitre, one of their most prominent positions,

$191,200 - $239,000 - $286,800 Annual (from the link below)

Given, this L5 is in data science/AI which is their highest paid job family (not all L5s are created equal)

https://careers.mitre.org/us/en/job/R116549/Principal-Software-Data-and-AI-Engineer

Low end of that spectrum is higher than the top end for a GS15. And Mitre tries to hire for the middle of the pay band.

This is base salary, mitre does not offer stock options. Difficult role to fill. Unfortunately they will probably fill it with a Fort Monmouth crony or find a tech industry reject.

Yes. Tech industry reject = Overrated Booze Allen residue. MITRE hired many for lots of $$

MITRE doesn't/can't have stock options, it does, however, have two kinds of bonuses for non-Officers. (I have no idea how the Officers are paid since it was absolutely never going to be relevant to me...)

The bands are total monetary compensation, not total salary. Until the Great Recession, total equaled salary. During the GR, they added "LSMs" - annual one-off pay. The first year of LSMs, MITRE applied them to everyone, purportedly because MITRE as a whole was above its intended rate. Subsequent to the first year, they've largely been used as way to reduce higher earners within band salaries towards the midpoint. Around 2018, they added an annual percentage bonus tied to MITRE's financial performance for the year. LSM vs. salary increase likelihood and available bonus percentages are tied to Levels.

N.B. MITRE's gone back & forth for decades over granularity of job families. Originally there were something like 85, dropped over the years to around 10 because HR found it "too hard" to figure out appropriate bands for so many families, but, they cut the families so much that they couldn't match real world pay rates in hot fields.

In my opinion there is no real need to hire a lobbyist. Engaging Congress is part of the CEO’s job and it is why they are paid top dollar to do.

does cna, ida, or mitre have lobbyists?

No. No. Yes.

That's it? CNA has high senior staff (form Feds) and VPs and Senior VPs in their IPR division making $290k-$350k...

No. Mitre also has at levels 6-8, some of whom are staff, not even directors or execs.

Mitre VPs mostly get paid visibly more than the CNA numbers printed above. CNA is a relative cheapskate compared to Mitre…

Does MITRE pay nepotism/cronyism bonuses? CNA doesn't
